Anthony Barr on joining the Dallas Cowboys: ‘I think Dallas is a contender’

Anthony Barr is a big believer in his new team.

Friday was a bit of an off day for the Dallas Cowboys with just a walkthrough taking place. Pads return on Saturday, but as exciting as that is we will have to wait a little longer to see the team’s newest player.

The Cowboys have actually added two new bodies since arriving in Oxnard and the first, KaVontae Turpin, has done rather well for himself. Originally thought to just be a contributor in the return game, Turpin looks like he could be a fun chess piece on the offensive side of the ball. The James Washington injury is a bit of a factor in that evolution.

We are all hoping that the same can be true for Dallas’ defensive addition in linebacker Anthony Barr. As noted, it will be a bit before we see Barr given that he is currently on the PUP list (wearing number 51 for those who track those things) which makes sense given that he is still new and getting caught up with things. There is no need to rush.

Expectations are important when it comes to Barr because it isn’t as if the Cowboys are getting the version of him flourishing in his prime. That isn’t to say that Barr can’t contribute, because he certainly can, it’s just to note that he is a bit further along in his career.

It seems that Barr is aware of this as well (at the very least on the surface). He noted that he believes he is joining a contender in the Cowboys and it makes sense that he would pick a team he legitimately believed in seeing as one. He obviously wants to win a Super Bowl before it is all said and done.

Barr reportedly chose the Cowboys over the Denver Broncos who are also expected to be good in 2022. Perhaps he feels the Cowboys are a better fit for him what with the relationship that he is rekindling with George Edwards or maybe he just doesn’t want to go through the gauntlet that is the AFC.

Either way there is no question that Anthony Barr believes that the Cowboys can do something significant in 2022. Here’s to him helping them do whatever that significant thing is.
