Breaking: Buccaneers May Trade Top Weapon? 4 Possible Suitors

July 18, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After having a promising rookie season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could move on early and trade top weapon Jalen McMillan during the 2025 campaign. According to a report, they believe the Buccaneers could send McMillan in a possible trade since he’s the “odd man out” in the wide receiver depth chart. This is interesting for many reasons. It’s still early for the Buccaneers to move on from McMillan, but it’s not entirely impossible if the right deal comes along.

Originally selected in the third round of the 2024 draft, the former Washington product has become a solid contributor behind Chris Godwin and Mike Evans as a reliable third-man option in the aerial attack. However, due to the emergence of the 2025 draft pick, Emeka Egbuka, there might not be enough room for McMillan to grow in this offense. Whatever might happen in this passing offense, there could be at least a trade that could be possible since quarterback Baker Mayfield won’t be able to target every pass-catcher on the field. After Tampa Bay went on a 4-1 stretch to end their postseason loss, McMillan scored seven touchdowns in those five games, so it’s not like there’s anything wrong with him.

Sterling Shepard was another Buccaneer receiver who was in rumors, so it’s anyone’s job up for grabs. However, Tampa Bay could get a lot in return for McMillan, so here are four teams that might be willing to offer.

Best Fits

Los Angeles Chargers

After losing Mike Williams, the Los Angeles Chargers need a new, fresh breath of air in the aerial attack. Tre Harris is holding out, which leaves Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston as somewhat capable weapons for quarterback Justin Herbert. Even though Herbert thrives throwing the football to his tight ends like Will Dissly and now Tyler Conklin, he could benefit from a fresh receiver. McMillan is the perfect fit for the Chargers as he has the speed and versatility to keep this passing offense intact.

Baltimore Ravens

Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens may have found their long-term WR3 after signing several veterans like Odell Beckham Jr., Diontae Johnson and now DeAndre Hopkins. McMillan provides longevity relief for Lamar Jackson as he won’t be taking snaps away from Zay Flowers or Rashod Bateman, but could make them better. Flowers and Bateman have similar sizes and hands, so it wouldn’t be the worst thing for the Ravens.

Dallas Cowboys

However, the Dallas Cowboys will need to upgrade their offense if they want to continue their success even beyond this upcoming 2025 season. Despite trading for George Pickens, if things work out in Dallas, the new duo between him and CeeDee Lamb might pay long-term benefits if they sign another wide receiver. Jalen Tolbert is entering the final year of his contract, and if he doesn’t live up to expectations, they could trade for McMillan to provide the last boost before a possible postseason appearance.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs don’t need another wide receiver, but since Rashee Rice has a pending case, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Between Xavier Worthy and Marquise Brown, they could hold it down in the aerial attack, but they can’t afford to exhaust either of them. McMillan, pairing with 2025 draft pick Jalen Royals, could be the future of this offense behind Worthy and Rice if Brown departs after the 2025 campaign.
