Breaking: Chiefs Former Super Bowl Champion Could Be On Trade Block?

August 6, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

The Kansas City Chiefs could send former Super Bowl champion cornerback Joshua Williams in a possible trade scenario this upcoming 2025 campaign. According to Seth Walder of ESPN, he created a list of “win-win” trades for several teams, and he believes the Chiefs would be better off sending Williams to the Miami Dolphins in a trade package. The Dolphins’ secondary room looks bleak despite trading for Minkah Fitzpatrick in an attempt to bolster the unit, but Williams is more of a depth corner, so it’s easy to see why he could be a fit for the Dolphins when they have one of the worst in the league right now. Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Fayetteville State product spent his entire career with the Chiefs as a depth corner behind Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson, Kristian Fulton and Nohl Williams.

Since Joshua Williams is entering the final year of his contract and the Chiefs have a ton of talent to work with, it might be worth making him available for a trade to see what type of offer they could receive. Despite that, the cornerback did put up some encouraging numbers, only allowing 0.6 yards in the past two seasons. The Chiefs could keep him until his contract expires, but with the current state of their cap space, it’s smarter to get a solid draft pick while Williams is healthy. Here are some other possible suitors that could negotiate a trade with Kansas City.

The Kansas City Chiefs won, 25-17.

Potential Destinations

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys need some type of new life in their cornerback room. Between Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland, the future doesn’t look promising for them to succeed, given their injury and consistency issues. After trading for Kaiir Elam, he has been turning heads, but is he ready for those playoff moments? Williams has more experience, and the Cowboys’ trading for him could be beneficial for that reason.

New Orleans Saints

Meanwhile, the New Orleans Saints probably have one of the worst cornerback units in the league this upcoming 2025 regular season. The team lost Marshon Lattimore and Paulson Adebo, but they’re hoping that Kool-Aid McKinstry and Alontae Taylor can fill the large hole. However, the chances of that happening are slim, so they could get someone like Williams, who has experience and can guide this roster in the right direction.

Los Angeles Chargers

Last season, the Los Angeles Chargers had one of the best secondaries in the league, even though it will look completely different this upcoming season. Between Donte Jackson and Benjamin St-Juste, the Chargers need to find a viable corner to back up 2024 draft pick Cam Hart. The Chiefs would never trade to the Chargers, but it’s hard to ignore the fit he has since the defensive coordinator, Jesse Minter, has been explosive in building a capable pass defense.

Carolina Panthers

Despite re-signing Jaycee Horn and Michael Jackson to new deals, the Carolina Panthers still have a depth issue. They had one of the worst cornerback rooms statistically last year, and they’re hoping that signing Tre’Von Moehrig could provide some type of relief. However, they could attempt to get Williams on a rotational basis to boost this productivity in the team’s secondary.
