Since the Green Bay Packers have a logjam in the wide receiver position, they could release Romeo Doubs before the 2025 campaign. According to a report, they believe the Packers will move on after drafting Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, who are the presumptive future starters on this roster. Doubs is entering the final year of his contract, and even though he’s working his way back on the depth chart from his injury, it might not matter anymore, at least in Green Bay. Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Mecole Hardman and two positions filled by Golden and Williams leave Doubs fighting for the possible final roster spot, assuming they keep four pass-catchers on the 53-man roster.
Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Nevada product did have somewhat of a productive campaign last year, hauling in 46 catches for 601 receiving yards and four touchdowns. The year ended with him working through a concussion, where he wore a Guardian cap to avoid another one. Doubs came back to practice this year from his back injury, but dropped two passes in the first 10 plays from quarterback Jordan Love, which is unusual for the wide receivers. If Doubs continues to be a liability for the Packers, a release could be on the verge in the next few days.

Breaking: Packers Could Release Starting Wide Receiver Romeo Doubs
Best Landing Spots
New Orleans Saints
As the New Orleans Saints have their quarterback in Spencer Rattler after his impressive preseason performance, the team should put him in the best position to win games. While Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed are the main options for his aerial attack, the Saints can’t afford to pull a nostalgic run from Brandin Cooks. He’s good and is still a reliable route runner, but when there are other options like Doubs, they should build on having one of the youngest wide receiver groups in the league.
New England Patriots
The same can be said about the New England Patriots, but the team signing Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins this offseason only means they’re heading in a direction of a ” win now” mindset. The Patriots have a logjam themselves in the wide receiver position with plenty of options, but no one consistent other than veteran Kendrick Bourne. Doubs might not work the WR1 or two, but he could be a phenomenal deep threat for Drake Maye’s offense if he can stay healthy.
Dallas Cowboys
After losing Jonathan Mingo to a brutal injury, the anticipation is that the Dallas Cowboys will be in the market for a wide receiver. The team has two high-level offensive weapons in George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb, but they could use the depth behind Jalen Tolbert, who is entering the final year of his contract. Since the Packers are trying to engage in trade talks with Dallas anyway, the team should find a way to get Doubs to build a powerful group of pass catchers that already contains Lamb and Pickens.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs will likely lose Rashee Rice for a few games due to an impending suspension. If that happens, the team should be in the trade market for a receiver who is in their last year of their contract, and that person should be Doubs. He probably won’t exceed 1,000 yards when you have other talents like Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy, but he’s another capable body to help Patrick Mahomes in the aerial attack.
