Breaking: Patriots Former Third Rounder On Trade Block – 4 Potential Destinations

August 21, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

With a new scheme in place under head coach Mike Vrabel, the New England Patriots are officially placing linebacker Anfernee Jennings on the trade block. According to a report, the Patriots are making Jennings available for a trade as they’ve made it known they’re trying to move on at the right price. The team has been in conversations already since the beginning of the summer, but the only thing that’s keeping him around is his strong performance during practice and the preseason. Despite that, it could increase his value, especially when you have other talents like Robert Spillane and Harold Landry, who signed new deals this offseason.

This leaves Jennings with no real path to have a role either way on this defense. As of this posting, the Patriots have been engaging in trade talks with each team throughout the league to find the right deal. Originally selected in the 2020 NFL Draft, the former Alabama product spent his entire career with the New England Patriots, signing a three-year deal last offseason, but he probably won’t play the last two years of his contract. Jennings isn’t the only Patriot, as safety Kyle Dugger is on the trade block as well, so here are four teams that could take a shot on Jennings to improve their linebacker room in time for the 2025 regular season.

Next Possible Teams

Dallas Cowboys

Despite adding two valuable linebackers in Jack Sanborn and Kenneth Murray Jr. this offseason, they could use the depth at the edge rush. Marist Liufau showed a few flashes in preseason, but it might be better to get an upgrade if Dallas wants to go deeper into the postseason. Jennings, who played with Belichick in New England, has more experience that could help Sanborn and Murray be versatile, ferocious linebackers.

Washington Commanders

Meanwhile, the Washington Commanders finally upgraded the linebacker room after signing Von Miller on a one-year deal. They have one of the oldest defenses between Miller and Bobby Wagner, who is also coming back for at least one more season. Frankie Luvu and Dominique Hampton will likely be the future of this room, so they could benefit from an experienced Jennings, who still has several years ahead of him.

New Orleans Saints

However, the New Orleans Saints have been focusing on improving the trenches even though they lost Willie Gay this offseason. While they have Pete Werner, DeMario Davis and Chase Young as high-level linebackers for the team, they could trade for Jennings to complete this package. Jennings doesn’t need to be the most explosive in this unit, but make life easier for Young, Davis or Werner to get after the quarterback.

Kansas City Chiefs

After trading for Joshua Uche last year, midway through the season, to improve the unit and help Nick Bolton, it didn’t do enough, even though the Chiefs found themselves in the Super Bowl. However, all of that fell apart during the big game against the Eagles, losing brutally. This doesn’t mean that Drue Tranquill or Leo Chenal are terrible linebackers by any means, but they haven’t been too spectacular. Jennings could bring this room back to life to assist Bolton, who just signed a new contract this offseason.
