Breaking: Rams Could Put Super Bowl Veteran on Trade Block

June 15, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

As the Los Angeles Rams will likely rebuild, they could put tight end Tyler Higbee on the trade block before the 2025 regular season. Earlier this offseason, he was named the Rams’ best trade asset, but as he’s entering the final year of his contract, the team might be open to trading him. Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, the former Western Kentucky product has a questionable future with the Rams, and it might be easier for the Rams to move on instead, since they drafted Terrance Ferguson this year. The Rams haven’t selected a tight end since 2017 when they drafted Gerald Everett, so this could signal that the team might be looking to move on.

However, they could keep him since they prefer to have a veteran presence, and there hasn’t been any further confirmation that head coach Sean McVay wants to move the team in another direction. After releasing Cooper Kupp and moving out of the first round of this year’s draft means the Rams are trying to stack on draft picks. This could signal that the team is heading towards a full rebuild in the next two seasons once Matthew Stafford either retires or becomes a free agent. Despite that, Higbee has been instrumental to the Rams’ pass offense, but everything good must come to an end somehow, and these five teams could pursue him if he becomes available for a trade.

Breaking: Rams Could Put Super Bowl Veteran Tyler Higbee on Trade Block

Possible Next Teams

Washington Commanders

Even though Zach Ertz and Tyler Higbee are in the same age range, the Washington Commanders could benefit from another high-caliber pass catcher. Despite extending John Bates to a new deal, he’s more of a pass-blocker than he is catching darts in the aerial attack. If Ertz retires or leaves for a new team next offseason, they could compensate Higbee on a one-year deal similar to what they’re doing now to give quarterback Jayden Daniels experienced playmakers.

Dallas Cowboys

Tight end Jake Ferguson is entering a pivotal season this year, as this is a contract season for him. Even though George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb are going to eat up most of the yardage, Ferguson is hoping to change things around coming off a disastrous 2024 campaign. If that doesn’t happen, they are better off signing Higbee at least on a one-year deal if he becomes a free agent.

Baltimore Ravens

Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens will probably try to trade Mark Andrews, given his inconsistencies and old age. Head Coach John Harbaugh wants to keep him a part of this offense for Lamar Jackson, but general manager Eric DeCosta doesn’t have the same feelings. The Ravens will need some type of backup veteran to guide Isaiah Likely, even though he’s at the peak of his career, but Higbee might fit into this championship roster.

Los Angeles Chargers

Quarterback Justin Herbert’s offense last year never failed to get the tight end unit involved in their aerial attack decisions. This is why they got Tyler Conklin in free agency to provide some more fire behind Will Dissly. Perhaps, they should continue building on that and sign Higbee to salvage this entire unit since the Chargers lack a true pass-catcher either way.

New Orleans Saints

However, the New Orleans Saints are in dire need of more weapons since they’re without an adequate signal-caller. Tight end Juwan Johnson has some promise, but it’s nothing on the level that he’s a proven difference maker. Higbee has won a championship before, and maybe he might bring out the best in Tyler Shough or Spencer Rattler.
