Breaking: “Several Teams” Inquiring On Possible Jets Blockbuster Trade

October 14, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

At 0-6, the New York Jets are no longer contending for a playoff appearance this 2025 campaign and might be willing to trade defensive end Jermaine Johnson. Several reports have the Jets trading Johnson this season even though the team picked up his fifth-year option in May and is under contract through the 2026 regular season. It’s hard to imagine that when you have an abysmal offense along with a team that probably won’t make the playoffs for the next three seasons that they would keep Johnson on this team. Johnson is a former first-round pick out of Florida State, who is now receiving interest from several teams looking to upgrade their pass-rushing unit.

It’s no surprise that teams are looking into getting him a part of their defensive roster. Despite suffering a torn Achilles tendon last season, Johnson is one of the better pass-rushers in the league today. In 2023, he put up 7.5 sacks, 55 total tackles and one interception throughout the entire season, even though the Jets were again not a winning football team. It’s only one thing on the mind for teams of what he could do when he’s a part of a contender, and the Jets are more than likely going to ask a lot in exchange for Johnson.

Here are three teams that could easily make a call and see what type of deal they can whip up to get Johnson out of New York this season.

Possible Next Teams

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have one of the worst defenses in the league today, so this trade is a no-brainer. After trading Micah Parsons to Green Bay in August, the Cowboys have yet to find any type of life on defense. While it takes more than one player to strengthen this roster, it’s better than not improving the defense at all. Johnson is easily the best pass-rusher if he can stay healthy and can turn into his own playmaker in the right situations in the disastrous Matt Eberflus defensive scheme.

The former first-rounder isn’t god, but he’s better than what they have in Dante Fowler Jr., Sam Williams and Marshawn Kneeland, who has yet to play a snap this year. James Houston is arguably the only surprising defensive player who is explosive, and if they start him and trade for Johnson, then they might have some life.

New England Patriots

Meanwhile, at 4-2, the New England Patriots are playing their best football, led by head coach Mike Vrabel’s first year. While the offense has been explosive along with a fiery defense, they could use someone like Johnson to put them in the conversation of a Super Bowl. It’s hard to predict what type of season the Patriots will have since anything could happen, but it looks like they want to win now. Johnson, joining Milton Williams, who just signed a long-term contract, could give the Patriots the upper hand in the AFC.

Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears don’t need another defensive end, but when you have an average offense, it’s always safe to bet your money on winning a championship. While they have Dayo Odeyingbo and Montez Sweat as two ferocious defensive player-makers, why not a third? Johnson doesn’t need to start, but he could begin slowly and work his way up to give quarterback Caleb Williams plenty of time on the field.
