Breaking: Top NFL Bullet Could Be Gone in Trade After Tonight’s Game

August 18, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After the NFL preseason matchup tonight against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Washington Commanders could trade running back Brian Robinson Jr. by the end of the night. According to breaking news, the Commanders are actively shopping the backfield piece as the team feels like they have enough depth, especially with the seventh-rounder, Jacory Croskey-Merritt, who has been putting on a clinic this offseason. The source indicates that a trade is unlikely to occur before the 2025 campaign, but given recent trades, anything is possible, and it could happen as soon as tonight. Originally selected in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Alabama product is entering the final year of his contract this season, it makes why the Commanders are looking to move on sooner rather than later while he’s still valuable.

With the drama of Terry McLaurin’s contract, there was no realistic path either way for Robinson to agree to a deal, since there might have been no mutual decision in possible talks. Despite Robinson improving his numbers this past year, recording 799 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, other running backs like veteran Austin Ekeler have looked more efficient down the field. This doesn’t mean Robinson is a terrible running back by any means, but he could fit better elsewhere in a new system where he could get most of the attention.

Breaking: Top NFL Bullet Brian Robinson Jr. Could Be Gone in Trade After Tonight’s Game – 4 Suitors Emerge

Potential Landing Spots

Dallas Cowboys

The Commanders would never trade Robinson to Dallas, but if they received the offer they want, it could be possible. The Cowboys are desperate to repair the running back unit to what it was several years ago, when Ezekiel Elliott was in his prime. Robinson is no prime Elliott by any means, but he is better than Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams combined.  The Commander has a chance to compete for a starting job in Dallas, facing 2025 draft pick Jaydon Blue.

New Orleans Saints

Meanwhile, the New Orleans Saints have one of the most explosive running backs in Alvin Kamara, but the rest could be better. Since the team will be reliant on the run game, it’s best to get all of the talent together. Cam Akers and Clyde Edwards-Helaire are average, but nothing where they can keep up with Kamara. Robinson, pairing with one of the fastest running backs, could be what the Saints need to support quarterback Spencer Rattler.

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens aren’t in the market for a running back, but when you have an aging running back like Derrick Henry, it might be time to build talent in the background. Keaton Mitchell showed a few flashes this preseason where he could be the future. However, why not get another bullet like Robinson to be a viable hog monster similar to Henry?

Los Angeles Chargers

Head Coach Jim Harbaugh loves a physical, old-school run game, which is why they got 2025 draft pick Omarion Hampton. Robinson matches all of the characteristics of what Harbaugh is looking for. With Najee Harris nursing an injury, this trade makes the most sense for Robinson to emerge as a potential starter to share the snaps with Hampton.
