Bucs vs. Cowboys: Thursday Afternoon Weather Update

The 2021 NFL season opener between the Bucs and Cowboys is slated to start in just a few hours, but the weather update down in Tampa Bay isn’t the best.

NFL Network reporter Jane Slater is currently at Raymond James Stadium, where the weather isn’t great. A clip from the stadium this morning reveals some pretty heavy rain coming down as of reporting.

Slater said that the weather is “supposed to clear up” before tonight’s 8:20 pm EST kickoff. But at this time of year, the weather in Florida can be pretty fickle.

According to Weather.com, there will be showers until around 4 p.m. locally. After that, the weather becomes partly cloudy with around a 10-percent chance of rain and some wind through the end of the night.

Weather wasn’t much of an issue for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year. They didn’t play a single game in the rain en route to winning the Super Bowl.

The Dallas Cowboys similarly didn’t play any games in the rain last year. They play all of their home games under a retractable roof anyway.

If the rain doesn’t clear up, it will be interesting to see how the two teams play in inclement weather. But by the looks of things, it may be a non-issue come kickoff time.

The Bucs-Cowboys game begins at 8:20 pm EST and will air on NBC.
