Cowboys Announce When Dak Prescott Is Expected To Resume Throwing

July 30, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott during a football game.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott gave fans plenty of cause for concern after leaving practice with shoulder soreness earlier this week. After being diagnosed with a muscle strain, there’s a new timetable on his return.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy estimated that Dak could return to throwing in “two, three days.” McCarthy said that Dak will continue to do everything except throw until that time but made it clear that he should be ready for mock games.

“Dak will still do all the drill work, he’ll be able do all the mock games,” McCarthy said, via ProFootballTalk. “We’re really just going to cut out the throwing here for a few days.”

McCarthy believes the Cowboys made the right call by pulling Dak from practice when he started having issues. He remains confident that Dak will be ready to go in preseason.

Dak Prescott missed 11 games last season due to a severe ankle injury he suffered in Week 5. The Cowboys offense quickly became anemic, and they wound up finishing the season with a 6-10 record.

In the ensuing offseason, the Cowboys re-signed Dak to a massive contract extension.

Needless to say, the Cowboys want to do everything they can to protect him heading into the 2021 season. Head coach Mike McCarthy certainly will if he wants to avoid a quick end to his tenure.

Get well soon, Dak. And Happy Birthday!
