Cowboys-Eagles Week 1 Predictions, Spreads, Best Prop Bets

September 1, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles kick off the NFL season on Thursday Night Football, and there is money to be made by making the correct predictions. The Eagles enter the 2025 season as reigning Super Bowl champions, while the Cowboys missed the playoffs and just traded superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. This could be a one-sided affair, but could the division foes deliver a strong battle?

Cowboys-Eagles Spread Prediction

The Philadelphia Eagles enter the 2025 season with what is, on paper, the NFL’s most talented roster. Jalen Hurts is a franchise quarterback, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are arguably the NFL’s best wide receiver duo, the offensive line is elite, Saquon Barkley is the reigning Offensive Player of the Year, and the defense is overloaded with playmakers at every position. After all, there’s a reason this team dominated the Kansas City Chiefs on the game’s biggest stage.

The Cowboys, meanwhile, don’t have the roster talent to match up with this organization. A healthy Dak Prescott is a good quarterback, and wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens give him the talent to go blow-for-blow with any opposing offense. Unfortunately, three players aren’t enough to make up for the talent disparity across the board. The Cowboys have a weak offensive line that will struggle to stop Philadelphia’s front seven, and the defense might be a bottom-five unit without Parsons.

Philadelphia also has an advantage in the coaching department. Nick Sirianni is living life on easy mode with this stacked roster, but he knows how to get the most out of a talented team. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer, meanwhile, spent his entire career as an unremarkable offensive coordinator who only got the job due to an overall lack of interest in the opening. Perhaps the first-year head coach can surprise, but all signs point towards this being a bad hire.

Best Prop Bets

CeeDee Lamb: OVER 72.5 Receiving Yards

Garbage time yards count the same in prop bets. The Eagles should jump out to an early lead in this one, forcing the Cowboys to abandon their weak running game and play catch-up for most of the contest. CeeDee Lamb is one of the game’s elite separators, so look for Prescott to target him early and often in this contest.

Dak Prescott: OVER 246.5 Passing Yards

See above. Even if the Cowboys keep this one close, it’s hard to envision the offense running through the washed-up corpse of Javonte Williams instead of the right arm of Dak Prescott. If Dallas wants to stand a chance, they’ll need Prescott to throw the ball as much as possible.

Jalen Hurts: UNDER 215.5 Passing Yards

The Eagles should win this game comfortably, which means they won’t need Jalen Hurts to win this one through the air. This should be a run-heavy gameplan with Saquon Barkley leading the way behind this elite offensive line. From a gameplan standpoint, the Cowboys defense is weakest in the trenches and strongest at cornerback, so why would they throw the ball any more than they have to?
