The Dallas Cowboys’ pass rush has taken a couple of big hits this week leading up to Sunday’s Week 2 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.
During Wednesday’s practice, veteran defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence suffered a foot injury that limited him throughout the day. This unfortunate news for the Cowboys comes just a few days after fellow DE Randy Gregory landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence suffered a foot injury in Wednesday’s practice and was listed as a limited participant. Add Randy Gregory’s potential absence due to COVID and the Cowboys’ pass rush would look a lot different Sunday vs. the Los Angeles Chargers.

Even with both of these guys on the field, the Dallas pass rush struggled to get after Tom Brady in their Week 1 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In fact, the Cowboys were one of just two teams (Green Bay Packers) that failed to notch a single sack in their season-opener.
Lawrence logged five tackles (zero for loss) and Gregory collected just one (zero for loss).
If Lawrence and Gregory are unable to go on Sunday, backups Tarell Basham and Dorance Armstrong will be forced to step up. Basham is coming of a career-best season in 2020 that saw him log 3.5 sacks and 36 tackles with the New York Jets and Armstrong collected 33 tackles through 16 games and two starts for the Cowboys this past season.
Starting right tackle La’el Collins is suspended for the next five games after violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Wide receiver Michael Gallup is currently on the IR with a calf injury he suffered in Week 1.
Looking to avoid an 0-2 start to the season, Dallas will kickoff against the Chargers in Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon.
