Cowboys have plenty of prospects to consider at loaded Michigan pro day

After spending Thursday at Notre Dame, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy and vice president of player personnel Will McClay made the three-hour drive up to Ann Arbor on Friday for Michigan’s pro day.

With a record 18 combine invites this year, the Wolverines have a deep class set to perform for a gathering of NFL coaches and scouts that one longtime draft veteran called the largest he can ever recall.

Quarterback J.J. McCarthy is the marquee draw for many of those clubs, but Michigan has prospects all over the field worth exploring.

Cowboys fans may prefer that the Dallas draft room enact a ban on all Wolverines players. In 2017, the Cowboys selected defensive end Taco Charlton with their first-round selection. He was supposed to be the “War Daddy” Dallas owner Jerry Jones was looking for. Instead, Charlton was released after his second season appearing in only 27 games for the team with seven starts. Last season, The Cowboys went back-to-back Wolverine with defensive lineman Mazi Smith then tight end Luke Schoonmaker. Smith played in all 17 games with 3 starts but only recorded 13 tackles and one sack. Schoonmaker caught eight passes for 65 yards and two touchdowns adding to the woes of an underachieving 2023 draft class.

This crop of Michigan prospects has a chance to change the perception in Dallas. The defending National Champs have a collection of players that seem to fit the holes the Cowboys have on their roster. Here’s a partial list of some of the Michigan men looking to turn heads at their pro day.
