Cowboys, Jets Connected in Possible Blockbuster Trade

August 29, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After a rough free agency this offseason, the Dallas Cowboys could trade for running back Breece Hall in a potential blockbuster scenario. According to Bleacher Report, the source proposed a trade between the Cowboys and New York Jets that would send Hall to Dallas in exchange for wide receiver Jalen Tolbert. The proposal looks realistic at first glance, but the Cowboys might not want to trade Tolbert, especially since Jonathan Mingo will miss a couple of games this upcoming season. Meanwhile, Hall has been in several trade rumors this offseason, and the Jets have been teasing that the team could be moving on.

It makes sense why the trade between Tolbert and Hall could happen since both of them are entering the final year of their contract. However, Tolbert isn’t going anywhere, and they’d be better off trading away another player who hasn’t been the most productive down the stretch. Either way, it could be any game that the Jets will trade Hall, especially if the team endures another losing season. Originally selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Iowa State product is coming off somewhat of a down year, recording 209 carries for 876 rushing yards.

Despite that, he reportedly wasn’t the “best” running back in Jets training camp, and that alone could motivate the team to move on from him. Dallas won’t be the only one to potentially chase Hall in a possible trade, but these three teams could use some depth right before the 2025 regular season.

Cowboys, Jets Connected in Possible Blockbuster Breece Hall Trade – 3 Potential Destinations

Best Fits

New Orleans Saints

After releasing Cam Akers and Clyde Edwards-Helaire since signing them just this offseason, they have to be in the works for a possible RB trade, right? It’s worrisome for starter Spencer Rattler’s backfield unit since they’re entering the 2025 campaign with an unproven backup like Kendre Miller to tag along with superstar Alvin Kamara. There is room for improvement in this area, and since the Saints have the momentum in stride after Rattler showed off an impressive preseason, they must hand the ball off every chance they get.

However, they can’t afford to gas out Kamara. Breece Hall doesn’t need to start right now, but he could eventually slowly win the starting job for this offensive run once Kamara retires.

Chicago Bears

Meanwhile, the Chicago Bears were able to upgrade every unit across the wide receivers, offensive line and tight end, but they have yet to get a reliable run game for this upcoming year. D’Andre Swift has been in trade rumors, and even if they do trade him, they should at least get a “fresh” start running back. The Jets might be willing to send Hall to the Bears in exchange for Swift. Hall will likely start in this offense depending on how he can match up against Roschon Johnson.

Baltimore Ravens

However, the Baltimore Ravens have an interesting running back situation right now. It looks like Derrick Henry has many years after his extension, but that might not be the case here. Henry is expected to slow down, and if that happens, the Raves should at least trade for a temporary RB to pair with the bulldozer to keep him fresh for the postseason.
