Updates: 5 roster moves ahead of Sunday’s game – Staff, The Mothership

Malik Turner returns from IR to add more WR depth and upgrade special teams.

The Cowboys have made the following roster moves ahead of Sunday’s game against Carolina:

-Wide receiver Malik Turner has been activated from Reserve/Injured-Designated for Return. Last season he was a core special teams contributor when active.

-Defensive tackles Austin Faoliu and Justin Hamilton are standard elevations from the practice squad. The Cowboys need defensive line depth Sunday because Dorance Armstrong (ankle) and Carlos Watkins (knee) have been ruled out against Carolina, and defensive end Bradlee Anae is currently on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Defensive end Randy Gregory (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday but fully expects to play.

-Running back Nick Ralston and tight end Jeremy Sprinkle have been elevated as COVID-19 replacements. (Linebacker Keanu Neal and Anae are on Reserve/COVID-19.) Ralston, an undrafted rookie, made his NFL debut Monday against Philadelphia, and Sprinkle has been elevated and active as the third tight end in all three games so far.

The Cowboys now have 51 players on their active roster, plus the four elevations, for Sunday.

Unearthing every NFL team’s early hidden gem – Brent Sobleski, Bleacher Report

Tony Pollard is a gem for the Dallas Cowboys, but being a hidden one is debatable.

Dallas Cowboys: RB Tony Pollard

Ezekiel Elliott is the game’s highest-paid running back. The Dallas Cowboys must find ways to utilize their $90 million ball-carrier. With that said, backup Tony Pollard demands a larger usage rate.

A distinct difference can be seen between the two backs. Elliott is in better shape this season and moving well, but Pollard is far more explosive with the ability to create chunk plays, either as a runner or wide receiver.

In fact, Pollard leads all running backs with a 41 percent first-down conversion or touchdown rate when he touches the ball, per Pro Football Focus. His average of 6.8 yards per carry leads all running backs with 20 or more attempts. His 7.4 yards per carry on first down ranks second overall, according to CBS Sports’ Jeff Kerr.

The Cowboys offense is loaded. Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb form arguably the league’s best wide receiver trio. Tight end Dalton Schultz is an emerging star. The offensive line is healthy and playing well. Elliott will get his, of course.

Quarterback Dak Prescott has an embarrassment of riches that now includes Pollard as yet another weapon to utilize.

From fan to contestant, former Cowboys safety Danny McCray is a ‘survivor’ – Todd Archer, ESPN

Who else is watching Survivor and rooting for Danny McCray to win it all?

Despite the beaches, clear waters and hot temperatures, going to Fiji was not on Danny McCray’s bucket list after he retired from the NFL in 2015.

“I couldn’t find it on a map, either,” said the former safety, who played six seasons in the league with Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears.

Yet for at least a week in March — maybe a lot longer — McCray found himself in Fiji, an archipelago of more than 300 islands in the South Pacific. He wasn’t staying at a fancy resort, enjoying the best of food and drink with his wife, Kiki, and perhaps some friends.

No, he was with 17 complete strangers, living off the land, scrounging for food, doing his best to win challenges while leaving all of the comforts of his previous life back in Texas.

The 33-year-old was a contestant on CBS’ “Survivor” — now in its 41st season.

Fully rested Brian Burns among the 6 things to know head of Cowboys-Panthers tilt – Ben Grimaldi, Cowboys Wire

Brian Burns could be a problem, but not one a healthy Tyron Smith can’t neutralize.

Brian Burns isn’t a problem, he’s the problem

Burns should be the biggest worry for the Dallas offense in Week 4. The Pro Bowl DE for the Panthers is one of the best young pass rushers in football and continues to get better. Burns has increased his sack total in his first two years in the league (7.5 to 9) and is on his way to double-digit sacks this season.

The third-year DE has three sacks and has picked up one in each game. Burns also has three tackles for a loss and has knocked down two passes on the year.

The Cowboys have dealt with some of the game’s best pass rushers early in the season without their top offensive line and Burns is next on the list. Burns has the ability to wreck the game for Dallas’ offense, they cannot allow that to happen.

Cowboys legend DeMarcus Ware sees something special in rookie Micah Parsons – Matthew Lenix, Inside The Star

Micah Parsons is a star in the making and what DeMarcus Ware says about him only confirms it.

Micah Parsons has been a breath of fresh air to the Dallas Cowboys defense. Defensive Coordinator Dan Quinn hasn’t just used him as an off-the-ball linebacker. With DeMarcus Lawrence currently out with a broken bone in his foot, Quinn has given Parsons more edge-rushing responsibilities. The results have been satisfactory. In the last two games, Parsons has 13 pressures, five quarterback hits, and 1.5 sacks.

Cowboys’ all-time sack leader, DeMarcus Ware, is as qualified as anyone to evaluate pass rushers. The future Hall of Famer thinks Parsons is a different breed from what he’s seen.

“He can close on a tackle in a way where it’s not like a normal person,” Ware said. “He’s got that different athleticism that he can use to really benefit the team. Some rushers can’t bend their body like that, but when you find a guy that can then it’s like, ‘Whoa, we got something special.’ I know I see something special in Micah.”
