Cowboys Reveal The Preseason Plan For Dak Prescott

July 30, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Dak Prescott suffered a setback on Wednesday during Dallas Cowboys training camp. The star quarterback, who is recovering from a frightening compound fracture and dislocated ankle suffered last fall, is dealing with a shoulder issue now.

After leaving practice, Dallas had their franchise quarterback undergo an MRI, which reportedly revealed a strain. It’s a relief for the Cowboys that the issue isn’t something more significant, but they obviously want to play things safe, especially with the season around the corner.

“I felt some soreness when making certain throws today, and I really just decided not to push things too far. Better to be cautious and smart about it. I don’t see this as any kind of serious setback. We’ll treat it on a daily basis, and I’ll be fine,” Prescott said Wednesday.

Today, team vice president Stephen Jones discussed the situation with his quarterback. He’s downplaying the issue, saying that the Cowboys will “be cautious but we have no concerns.”

Executive VP Stephen Jones said the plan remains for Dak Prescott to play in the preseason some, despite a latissimus injury that will prevent the quarterback from throwing for a time in camp. “We’ll be cautious but we have no concerns,” Jones said. “We’ll be smart about it.”

The Dallas Cowboys enter the season with high expectations, after a deeply disappointing 2020 season. Even while Prescott was putting up historic numbers to start the year, the Cowboys defense hemorrhaged points.

They finished the year 6-10, in third place of the NFC East, which was about as bad as a full division has been in recent memory.

In just five games, Prescott completed 68-percent of his throws for 1,856 yards, nine touchdowns, and four interceptions. He averaged 371.2 yards per game, well above what league leader Patrick Mahomes averaged for the full season at 316.

On paper, the Cowboys should have one of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL. We’ll see if Dak Prescott can stay healthy and pay off that hype.
