It’s a staunchly foreign concept for many Dallas Cowboys fans. They think it’s an affront to their devotion to, in any way, shape or form root for the success of a division rival. That’s hogwash. The goal of this franchise, despite the almost 30-year drought, is winning the Super Bowl. Nothing else matters. No one is planning a downtown Dallas parade if the team finally manages to escape the divisional round.
Therefore, taking satisfaction in the success of one of the hated should be seen as ok. A person isn’t any less of a fan if they root against their nature in the short term if it means much more in the long term. That’s why Cowboys fans should’ve been rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles last week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and why in most instances for the remainder of the 2021 season, Dallas lovers should cheer for them, the morally corrupt Washington franchise and the Eeyore inspired Giants of New York. The NFC East is non-competitive, those clubs now stand as upset hopefuls to cause teams truly sitting between Dallas and a championship to stumble.
Besides, it’s a win-win situation.
If the division rivals win when facing off against NFC foes in the playoff race, then it helps the Cowboys out. Fans of Dallas can take joy in the fact that their rival fans are rooting for things that help Dallas. On the opposite end, if they fail? Great! More misery for the opposing fan base as they tumble into obscurity.
With that said, here’s a look at the Week 7 matchups across the entire league that Cowboys fans have a rooting interest in.
