Cowboys Star Offensive Lineman Reportedly Receives 5-Game Suspension

September 11, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Dallas Cowboys stars La'el Collins and Dak Prescott celebrate during a Dallas Cowboys game.

The past few weeks have been quite challenging for Dallas Cowboys offensive tackle La’el Collins, and unfortunately the hits just keep on coming.

ESPN insider Adam Schefter just reported that Collins has received a five-game suspension from the NFL. This is a brutal development for a player who just returned from an injury.

Collins missed time in training camp due to a neck injury. However, he managed to heal in time for the Cowboys’ season opener against the Buccaneers.

Less than 24 hours after the team’s season opener, Dallas learned that it must reshuffle its offensive line for its Week 2 matchup.

Cowboys’ OT La’el Collins suspended five games, per source.

According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Collins’ suspension was for missing drug tests. In other words, he didn’t show up for at least one of his drug tests.

My understanding is La’El Collins was suspended for missing drug tests. Essentially, failure to appear. https://t.co/L4dL8GgRp3

Although this is an unfortunate situation for the Cowboys, it’s worth mentioning that Ty Nsekhe and Terence Steele have experience playing offensive tackle.

In fact, Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters last week that his offense could operate just fine with Nsekhe or Steele at right tackle.

“We’ll work with both Ty and Terrance. We’ll be ready to go with both those guys,” McCarthy said, via ProFootballTalk. “Ty, obviously with where he is in his career, I’ve thought he’s done a good job with us throughout camp. I think he’s going to get — I don’t know about better — but more and more comfortable with what we’re asking him to do. He’s a very solid camp.”

The Cowboys are going to need Nsekhe and Steele to hold down the fort during Collins’ five-game absence.
