CeeDee Lamb is great, drops are bad.
After an incredible game to kickoff the season, the Cowboys found themselves on the wrong side of things, and started off the year 0-1 after losing to the reigning Super Bowl champs. While no loss should be considered a good one, there were still a lot of positives to takeaway from the Cowboys 31-29 loss.
One concerning thing we saw continue into 2021 is CeeDee Lamb’s drops. Let me preface this by saying CeeDee Lamb is an incredible talent, and is one of the biggest difference-makers on the Cowboys offense, but after having issues with drops in 2020 with four different quarterbacks throwing him the ball, those issues cropped up again in the week one opener.
Networks have yet to post their official drop numbers for week one, and they won’t post them until all the games are completed, but Lamb had two clean drops, one 50/50 drop, and one bobble against the Buccaneers. These questions crop up after ending up tied for fourth in the NFL in 2020 with nine drops. The interesting thing here is that Lamb did not have drop issues in college at Oklahoma, so to see him struggle with it early in his career is more interesting than concerning.

Unfortunately for the Cowboys, one of Lamb’s drops resulted in a tipped interception that would result in a Tampa Bay touchdown. Those turnovers are what crushed the Cowboys in previous seasons. With Michael Gallup sidelined for the next few weeks with a calf strain, Lamb will need to cleanup the drops if the Cowboys offense is going to be the driving factor in the win-loss column for the team this season.
CeeDee Lamb is really, really good, but the drop thing is something to keep an eye on as his young career progresses.
