DeMarvion Overshown was one of the few bright spots on a Dallas Cowboys defense that was otherwise putrid. Coming off a lost rookie year in 2023, Overshown delivered everything that Cowboys fans hoped for until a devastating knee injury in Week 14 against the Cincinnati Bengals cut his breakout season short. He underwent surgery in December 2024 to repair tears to his ACL, MCL, and PCL. Despite the severity, recent updates suggest Overshown could return as early as midseason 2025.
DeMarvion Overshown’s Recovery Status: Cowboys Linebacker Eyes Midseason Return
A Promising Start Halted
Drafted in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Overshown’s rookie season ended before it began with a torn ACL in the preseason. He came back strong in 2024, recording 90 tackles, five sacks—one of only five players with that stat line—and a highlight-reel pick-six. And he did it in just 12 starts. His infectious demeanor and relentless motor made him an instant fan favorite—and one of the few consistent performers on a defense that lacked identity.
Optimism In Recovery
Overshown has expressed confidence in his rehabilitation process. Speaking on the Up & Adams Show, he stated:
“I’ve been through this before, but this time it feels way easier. The mental side is really what I’m focusing on because I know physically I’m going to be okay.”
Reports indicate that Overshown is progressing on schedule, with a projected return sometime around midseason. But don’t rule out the possibility of seeing him sooner:
“It’s training camp,” he said when asked when he envisions being back on the field. “I’m not throwing away starting off week one. I’m never throwing it out. I’m working for that.”
He acknowledges the need to be smart—especially this early in his career—but he is attacking rehab with the same intensity he plays with. The Cowboys may take a cautious approach, possibly starting him on the PUP list. But Overshown isn’t giving up on the idea of being out there with his teammates when the lights come on in September.

Agent 0’s Comeback Could Lift Cowboys Linebacker Room
Simply returning isn’t good enough—Overshown aims to excel. He has openly stated his ambition of being named the NFL Comeback Player of the Year in 2025. This goal speaks volumes about where his head’s at. He’s not content with just making it back on the field—he’s coming back to be the same difference-maker he was before.
For a Cowboys defense searching for identity and leadership, Overshown’s return can’t come soon enough. His relentless motor and playmaking ability are sorely needed. He’s also a true tone-setter for a team that doesn’t really have one without him. Undersized by prototypical standards, Overshown plays with an oversized heart and has a personality and energy that is contagious.
Whether he is back in time for Week 1 or not, his return will be one of the defining storylines for this team. The Cowboys will need to hold the line in his absence. But fear not—Agent 0 is coming.
