Dallas Cowboys Falls Apart as Chicago Rookie Unleashes Explosive Attack

September 23, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

The lights shone bright at Soldier Field on Sunday night as Chicago Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams threw a super 35-yard touchdown pass to Rome Odunze, starting the Bears’ big win! The Bears beat the Dallas Cowboys 31-14, and it mattered because Williams played awesome, throwing 19 correct passes out of 28 for 298 yards and 4 total touchdowns. The Cowboys’ defense had a tough game and might need to work on stopping the other team’s offense.

Cowboys Vs. Bears: The Action

After Brandon Aubrey’s 53-yard field goal, Williams answered with a 65-yard touchdown to Luther Burden III. Dallas clawed back when Dak Prescott hit George Pickens for a 2-yard score and converted a two-point play, tying the game at 14. But Chicago regained control before halftime with a Cairo Santos field goal and a 10-yard pass to Cole Kmet. Williams delivered the knockout blow early in the third quarter, finding DJ Moore for a 4-yard touchdown that secured the Bears’ dominance.

Numbers Told Part of The Story

Dallas outgained Chicago 396 to 385 and rushed for more yards, but the Bears averaged 6.8 yards per play compared with Dallas’s 5.9. Burden III finished with 101 yards and a touchdown on three catches. Tight end Jake Ferguson gave the Cowboys a leg up with 13 receptions for 82 yards, but it was not enough.

Is the Cowboys’ Defense “Horrific”?

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith declared the Cowboys’ defense “horrific,” pointing to rankings of 30th in total defense, 31st in pass defense, and last on third down. Williams was never sacked, and Chicago’s game plan worked to perfection against former Bears coach Matt Eberflus, now Dallas’s defensive coordinator.

“The Dallas Cowboys defense is horrific,” he said. “No pass rush, no secondary can’t stop a damn cold.”

Some experts said the Cowboys, backs against the wall, may be forced to step up to the plate by making midseason staff changes.

“I don’t know if that’s going to happen but we have pointed the finger at the defensive coordinator a lot even going back to Dan Quinn after that Green Bay game,” Zach Wolchuk said on the podcast of 103.5 The Fan, “At some point is it the coordinator? Or is it the personnel?”

Prescott completed 31 of 40 passes for 251 yards but threw two interceptions, including one on fourth down. Owner Jerry Jones said the team remains playoff caliber, though he conceded they must “get better defensively.” Analysts countered that no contender can prosper with the worst defense in the NFC.

For Chicago, the triumph gave Williams a chance to silence critics and prove he can run with it inside the structure of the offense. The Bears are 1-2 and will play the Raiders next, then get a break. The Cowboys are also 1-2 and will play the Packers away, then host the Jets at home. This upcoming schedule might be tough for the Cowboys, and they need to play better.
