An old comment from Donald Trump about the Dallas Cowboys went viral following Forbes’ new list of the most valuable franchises in the NFL.
Earlier this week, Forbes revealed the franchise valuations for every team in the National Football League. Unsurprisingly, the Cowboys came in at No. 1.
Jerry Jones’ franchise is currently valued at $6.5 billion. That’s the highest mark in the league and likely the entire world.
The Cowboys are currently worth $1.5 billion more than the next most-valuable NFL franchise. The New England Patriots come in with a franchise value of $5 billion.

The former United States president made a run at buying the Dallas Cowboys before Jerry Jones purchased the team.
When Trump lost out on the Cowboys, he made a quip about Jones and the franchise.
“I feel sorry for the poor guy who is going to buy the Dallas Cowboys,” Trump said. “It’s a no-win situation for him, because if he wins, well, so what, they’ve won through the years, and if he loses, which seems likely because they’re having troubles, he’ll be known to the world as a loser.”
Donald Trump passed on buying the Cowboys in 1984 for $50M saying he felt “sorry for the poor guy who is going to buy” the team.
Today, Forbes says the Cowboys are worth $6.5B, meaning if Trump bought the team, it would have yielded a 20.7% annual compound growth for 38 years. pic.twitter.com/S5pOryoLzB

The former United States president wasn’t wrong about the scrutiny aspect, but Jerry Jones is anything but a loser.
Jones has turned the Cowboys into the most-valuable franchise in the world – and he’s won three Super Bowls along the way.
The Cowboys are scheduled to open the 2021 season on Thursday, Sept. 9 against the reigning Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
