Ezekiel Elliott Sends Clear Message About Week 1 Performance

September 16, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott at AT&T Stadium.

It’s not controversial to say that Ezekiel Elliott didn’t impress in Week 1 for the Dallas Cowboys. But don’t tell the Pro Bowl running back that.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Elliott addressed the issue of his contributions outside of the box score. He accused critics of not understanding that a player can “have a solid game without statistics” and challenged people to “study the game more” if they don’t see how.

Ezekiel Elliott had 11 carries for 33 yards in last Thursday’s 31-29 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also had two receptions for six yards.

Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore had only good things to say about Elliott following the loss. He praised Elliott for his pass protection and pointed out that the team limited the run game in their plan because the Buccaneers had the league’s best run defense.

#Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott asked about what people aren’t noticing outside of the box score, ie some of his blocks “you can have a solid game without statistics, if people don’t understand that they should probably study the game more”

There certainly is more to a running back’s role than just running and catching the ball. Nevertheless, the Cowboys might have stood a better chance if Elliott had been able to do more with what he had.

The fact that Elliott’s 2020 season wasn’t as productive as the Cowboys have been used to may give fans cause for concern too.

Ezekiel Elliott and the Dallas Cowboys have a chance to correct course this coming Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Will Elliott get more carries and yards in Sunday’s game?
