Fantasy Football World Speculating About Saquon Barkley

September 17, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Saquon Barkley walking onto the field for the New York Giants in 2018.

Saquon Barkley’s first game back for the New York Giants after missing most of 2020 with an injury was an underwhelming one to say the least. At the fantasy football level, his Week 1 performance is causing concerns.

Barkley is listed as questionable heading into tonight’s game against the Washington Football Team. Coming off 10 carries for 26 yards, many fans are worried that he isn’t worth starting this week.

The Washington Football Team boast a superb defensive line that could give Barkley – and the Giants – headaches. Meanwhile, the Giants offensive line has been struggling for years.

But some are pointing out that while Barkley is a risky play for Week 2, he might go off on the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3. By then, the theory is, he’ll be well-rested and going up against a defense that isn’t nearly as stout as Washington.

Saquon Barkley has a tough matchup against Washington on a short week and in a National TV island game. If he struggles (which I expect) there will be panic and that’s when you buy

He gets the Falcons on long rest in Week 3

If you have Saquon Barkley, YOU DO NOT need to play him. Rather get more information on his situation then get an Thurs. dud. Late guys I’d rather start over Saquon:

James White
Ty’Son Williams
Nyheim Hines
James Conner
Jamaal Williams

It being a Thursday game only makes me feel more comfortable in *not* starting him. I dont fully trust Saquon yet and want maximum flexibility. There’s about a 99% chance that he will be in my starting lineup for every week from here on out, though. No matter his numbers tonight.

As a rookie in 2018, Saquon Barkley looked prime to be the next great NFL running back. He led the NFL with 2,048 yards from scrimmage, earning Pro Bowl and Rookie of the Year honors at season’s end.

But injuries quickly began to mount. He missed three games in 2019 but still had over 1,400 yards from scrimmage.

The following year, Barkley tore his ACL in Week 2 and missed 14 games.

That didn’t stop the Giants from picking up Barkley’s fifth-year option. But he may struggle to get the kind of long-term contract that he really wants unless his production improves in a hurry.

Will Saquon Barkley be a good play in fantasy football today?
