HBO’s Hard Knocks returns a week from today. This year, America’s Team is in the spotlight, as the Dallas Cowboys star on the show for the third time in the show’s history, and first time since 2008.
This offseason is a big one for the Cowboys, after last season’s disappointing 6-10 campaign. Mike McCarthy has a ton of pressure to turn things around, as the team should be in the heart of its Super Bowl window with star players all across the offense.
“I almost wrecked my truck when Jerry [Jones] told me,” McCarthy admitted after the news came down that his team would be the subject. He says he plans to “be himself,” rather than worry about how he’s perceived.
Today, we got a brief glimpse at the upcoming show. The NFL and HBO dropped a trailer of the season, showing Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, McCarthy, and the other big names that promise to be focuses this summer.

It isn’t immediately clear how much action we’ll see Prescott involved in this month, though. After recovering from the gruesome ankle injury that ended his 2020 season, he’s now dealing with a shoulder strain.
Dallas has understandably decided to be pretty conservative in its handling of the franchise quarterback, who just signed a huge new deal with the team.
McCarthy admitted that Prescott has “taken a step back” with the injury. He isn’t throwing right now, and won’t be active against the Pittsburgh Steelers for Thursday’s Hall of Fame Game. Hopefully it doesn’t linger into the season, both for HBO’s sake with Hard Knocks around the corner, and for the league’s as a whole.
