Here are all of the major moves the Dallas Cowboys made over the offseason.

Everybody approaches an NFL offseason differently.

Some fans actively follow each and every single move that their favorite team makes from start to finish. Other sports happen and have their own top moments, but football reigns supreme always.

Then you have the other side of the spectrum. These fans check out a bit and decide to return right around when training camp is getting set to take off. Seeing as we are nearing that time we figured now would be a good one to offer a TL;DR of sorts.

Here are all of the major moves that the Dallas Cowboys made this past offseason.

Let’s set the record straight at the very top and specify that we are discussing only the “major” moves that the Cowboys have made since we last saw them play a football game. With all due respect to moves not mentioned, these are the headliners of sorts and in all likelihood the ones that will carry the most meaning (we have also glossed over the UDFA process as that falls along the same lines).

We recently conducted this same exercise with the 2022 through 2024 offseasons which was quite depressing. Looking at just this offseason alone it feels like a significant outlier in that sense.

You will note that there are only two significant re-signings and they were notable in that the Cowboys got ahead of the franchise tag deadline for Osa Odighizuwa (just barely, but still counts) and the restricted free agent process for KaVontae Turpin. That was great to see.

Shortly after that we saw the Cowboys address things in a strong sense, at the very least from a quantitative perspective. They brought in a number of free agents (for their standards) and even executed some trades for veterans once their compensatory picks became movable assets. Our own Danny Phantom took a look at the trades prior to the one made for George Pickens and highlighted the value that Dallas found.

But then there was that George Pickens trade! It was the cherry on top of this offseason and came just after the NFL draft was over. Back in January the collective consensus agreed that positions of serious need were defensive tackle, linebacker, cornerback, backup quarterback, running back and wide receiver.

  • DT: Osa Odighizuwa, Solomon Thomas
  • LB: Kenneth Murray, Jack Sanborn
  • CB: Kaiir Elam, Shavon Revel
  • QB2: Joe Milton
  • RB: Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders and Jaydon Blue
  • WR: KaVontae Turpin (sort of), Parris Campbell and George Pickens

Again, speaking from a quantitative perspective this team has checked all of the boxes. It obviously would have been nice to see them doing a couple of things in a different way (we can always hold this disposition) but it is hard to not sit here and feel like they stocked the cupboard with Oxnard only a few weeks away.

It goes without saying that only time will tell how legitimate of work Dallas did, but again this is true of any team in any offseason. Relative to the past though, they have done a whole heck of a lot.
