If week one was this weekend Dak Prescott would ‘for sure’ be suiting up for the Dallas Cowboys

NFL: Dallas Cowboys Training Camp
Jason Parkhurst-USA TODAY Sports

Nobody likes injuries to star players, but it looks as if Dak and the Cowboys are going to be just fine.

Nobody likes injuries, and a training camp injury to QB1, who just signed a massive new deal and is coming off an injury that cost him most of the past season, yeah there is reason for the team, and fanbase, to have a quick moment of panic in the pit of their stomach.

Fear not though, it seems Dak Prescott and the team have dodged the proverbial bullet as the injury doesn’t seem to be much of a concern at all. In fact, Dak is on record stating if it was game week and the team was preparing to play Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday, he would be ready to go.

If the Cowboys were playing Tampa Bay on Sunday, would Dak Prescott be playing?

Taking time off due to an injury scare for any key player is less than ideal, never mind your QB1. However, in this case it looks as if Dak and the team are looking long-term and made a smart decision with his availability. The season can’t be won in July and August per se, but a devastating injury to a key player certainly can derail it quickly.

All indications are that this bump in the road is just that and it did not change much in the minds of Cowboys brass. Outside of not throwing for a couple days, it looks as if all systems are go for Dak and his preseason and training camp plans moving forward.

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy still anticipates Dak Prescott playing in preseason.

A day after holding himself out from throwing mid-practice, Dak was able to participate in practice, albeit in a limited fashion, the following day. Dak was able to spend his birthday in full pads going through most drills and avoiding using his arm for any throwing motion throughout the day. Dak was even heard joking that the days practice had a focus on scrambling for him.

Dak even exercised good judgment when Ezekiel Elliott and the offensive linemen mushed his birthday cake in his face and when his first thought was to throw it at Zeke, he instead chose to mush it back at them but smartly doing so with his left arm.

Update on @dak‘s birthday… (Spoiler: This didn’t end well for the cake.)

We are now into the dog days of summer, and practices are heating up as the pads have come on. We are now within a week of the Cowboys first preseason game versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. Cowboys players, coaches, and fans can all take a collective sigh of relief to know it looks as if Dak Prescott is just fine and looks to be ready to go moving forward.
