Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy didn’t get off to the smoothest start when he took over last season. However, he quickly turned things around in 2021 and has his team on the way to the playoffs in a few weeks time.
McCarthy has made some sizable leaps in his second year in charge of the Cowboys. As a result, Jerry Jones think it’s about time for his head coach to get his props.
Jones made his weekly radio appearance on Tuesday and lauded McCathy’s efforts after a 56-14 blowout of the Washington Football Team.
“He is the difference-maker, and that needs to be recognized,” Jones said of McCarthy on 105.3 The Fan, per The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “I’m really proud of him.”

The Cowboys were undoubtedly sharp on both sides of the ball this past Sunday night against their NFC East rivals. Dak Prescott played one of his best games of the year and the Dallas defense confounded Taylor Heinicke to completely dominate Washington.
McCarthy improved to 17-14 as the Cowboys head coach and Dallas clinched an NFC East division title with the victory. The team might be hard-pressed to earn a first-round bye, but locked up home-field advantage for at least one playoff game with the latest win.
McCarthy has been instrumental to the Cowboys success this year, but he’ll surely be judged on what he does in the postseason. Dallas faces a tough road ahead to get through the talented NFC, so McCarthy will have to deliver a strong coaching performance week after week if he wants to compete for a conference championship or a Super Bowl.
Regardless of what happens in the playoffs, it sounds like he’s completely earned the respect of the Cowboys owner going forward.
