Dak Prescott has been the Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback since the 2016 season, when he took over for an injured Tony Romo and never gave the job back.
Paxton Lynch could’ve been the quarterback in position to take over for Romo, though.
On Sunday, Lynch made his USFL debut. The former Denver Broncos quarterback, who was taken in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, did not pan out for John Elway’s team.
The Cowboys have Elway to thank for that, as Jerry Jones was reportedly a big fan of Lynch. He likely tried to convince his team’s front office – which he’s a big part of – to pull the trigger on a move for Lynch.
Jason Garrett ripping Paxton Lynch in this USFL game is so on brand for the Cowboys. There is an alternate universe in which the Cowboys would have drafted Lynch in the first round with Garrett as coach and why might not have ever heard of Dak Prescott

Things could have been much different for Jerry Jones’ team over the past five years.
Jerry Jones really liked Paxton Lynch. Just watching @USFL today. Happy Easter everyone. Be safe.

The Cowboys haven’t won anything of note with Prescott behind center, but he’s obviously a much better quarterback than Lynch.
Paxton Lynch in at QB for the USFL…
I never want to hear people throwing shade at us for drafting Dak again.

Lynch, meanwhile, will look to find a way back to the NFL following a stint in the USFL. He’ll need to play a lot better moving forward, though.
