The Cowboys have made some news regarding their lineup for Sunday.

The Dallas Cowboys began their season without one of their top offensive linemen last week as Zack Martin was on the Reserve/COVID-19 list for the season opener, but while Martin is back the Cowboys group up front will be down another starter when they visit the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

Last Friday it was announced that La’el Collins had been suspended for five games which takes him out through the Cowboys bye week. In the days since then many people have been debating what the proper answer is for the team at right tackle as there are seemingly a number of options that the Cowboys could go with.

It seems as if a decision has been made. Speaking on Tuesday morning on 105.3 The Fan Jerry Jones said that Terence Steele will start at right tackle.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones settles initial plan for RT with La’el Collins suspended.

“The plan is to go with (Terence) Steele,” Jerry tells @1053thefan. “He’ll do a good job. He’s a young guy we’re proud of.”

Steele is one of a few options that the Cowboys had to work with at right tackle. Ty Nsekhe was actually signed this offseason specifically to be the group’s swing tackle, but in the first opportunity that the team has to rely on him they are consciously choosing not to.

Many Cowboys fans believe that the best answer to this current conundrum is to kick Zack Martin out to right tackle and continue to play Connor McGovern at right guard (where he excelled last week). Our own Aidan Davis charted the potential of each option and it is arguable that Steele is the worst choice.

As you can see Steele finished with the worst PFF grade at tackle of the available options, but in total fairness he is still an ascending player in his second season. There is certainly reason for hope in terms of who he can wind up being as far as his career is concerned, but it doesn’t exactly feel like the right (no pun intended) option for the Cowboys to pursue.
