The Dallas Cowboys appeared to be one of the few, true powerhouse in the NFC through the first weeks of the season, but the last few games have shown another side of the organization.
Dallas has gone 3-3 during over its last six games with head-scratching losses to the Denver Broncos, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Las Vegas Raiders. There’s still some question as to what’s gone wrong for the Cowboys during that period, but one reason seems clear: franchise quarterback Dak Prescott has not been his usual self.
Prescott, who started out the year on an MVP pace, has cooled off in recent weeks. He’s had a number of frustrating games, with the latest coming against the Washington Football Team.
The Cowboys were able to come out on top 27-20 in the NFC East contest, but Prescott went 22-for-39 for 211 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions. He also took four sacks.
With the Cowboys still at 9-4, it’s not quite time to sound the alarm in Dallas. However, owner Jerry Jones was forced to answer questions about his quarterback’s play in recent weeks.
“I don’t want to say that, slump, but that’s probably fair,” Jones said when asked if Prescott is in a slump on 105.3 The Fan Tuesday, per ESPN’s Todd Archer. “But it’s such a multi-faceted evaluation that I would say our offense is definitely away from where we were playing 5 and 6 games ago.”

Jones is right that the entire offense hasn’t been up to snuff in recent weeks. After scoring over 35 points four times in their first six games, the Cowboys have reached that mark just once in their last six games. Dallas also scored just nine points against Kansas City and 16 against Denver.
Despite their recent struggles, the Cowboys are still just a game out of No. 1 seed in the NFC and atop the NFC East standings. So long as Prescott can clean some things up in the final four regular season games, Dallas should be treated as a championship contender heading into the playoffs.
