Mike McCarthy: Ty Nsekhe unavailable to Cowboys this week due to heat exhaustion on Thursday

An update on the Cowboys roster heading into the game on Sunday.

The Dallas Cowboys have lost a number of different players since they lost their season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Thursday.

A week ago we found out that Michael Gallup would miss 3-5 weeks with a calf strain and that La’el Collins would miss the next five games due to suspension. This week Randy Gregory tested positive for COVID-19, Donovan Wilson’s groin issue flared back up, and DeMarcus Lawrence broke his foot which will sideline him for a “significant” amount of time.

Unfortunately, the Cowboys are down yet another player as they ready to face the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Mike McCarthy provided an update on Friday on the team as a whole.

Ty Nsekhe suffered heat exhaustion on Thursday and will miss the Chargers game

McCarthy noted that reserve tackle Ty Nsekhe suffered heat exhaustion on Thursday that was so severe that he was admitted to the hospital. It appears that all is well with Nsekhe (the most important thing), but he won’t play on Sunday.

Mike McCarthy says Ty Nsekhe was admitted to the hospital yesterday with some heat exhaustion symptoms after practice.

He has been released from the hospital, but he won’t be available Sunday against L.A.

McCarthy declined to confirm what Jerry Jones said earlier in the week when he first spoke back on Wednesday that Terence Steele would start at right tackle. It is obvious that Steele will be starting there this week if it wasn’t before.

Randy Gregory is still in the COVID protocol

One thing that McCarthy shared early in the week was that he didn’t feel confident that Randy Gregory would play on Sunday after testing positive for COVID-19. We have now reached Friday and Gregory is still in the protocol.

Cowboys DE Randy Gregory remains in Reserve/COVID-19 protocol. No change there.

Jerry Jones was also asked about this during his Friday appearance on 105.3 The Fan. He kept it as optimistic as he could, but he basically acknowledged that it is extremely unlikely.

I’m told Gregory has yet to log a negative test so yes it doesn’t look good. No serious symptoms but not feeling well still https://t.co/41THZeAMLB

It will be a tough week to generate a pass rush to say the least.

The jury is still out on Donovan Wilson

Time will tell whether or not Donovan Wilson will play for the Cowboys this week. Mike McCarthy said that they need to see him practice on Saturday.

Cowboys S Donovan Wilson (groin) needs to participate in some form during practice Saturday, coach Mike McCarthy said, in order to have a chance to play Sunday vs. Chargers. Wilson yet to practice this week.

Fingers crossed.
