Mike McCarthy lives and breathes football. Don’t believe us? You need to hear what the Dallas Cowboys head coach had to say ahead of Thursday night’s Hall of Fame Game.
McCarthy looked the happiest he’s ever been with the Cowboys during a sideline interview with Erin Andrews of FOX Sports. His enthusiastic comments went viral as well. Andrews asked the Cowboys head coach what it felt like to be back playing football Thursday night. McCarthy had a pretty funny response.
“It’s great. It’s real football. It smells like football,” McCarthy said ahead of Thursday’s Hall of Fame Game, via FOX Sports: NFL. “We’ve had a great camp. Full crowd. This is an awesome night.”
It was pretty hilarious. Take a look.

Mike McCarthy is a total football guy. He, like the rest of us, are overjoyed football is back.
The NFL’s preseason came in a hurry. The Tokyo Olympics and later-than-usual NBA season are probably big reasons why. We’re certainly not complaining. There will be football on every week for the rest of the year.
The NFL has several more weeks of the preseason before the actual season commences on Thursday, Sept. 9 College football, meanwhile, gets going the weekend of Aug. 28 with “Week Zero.” College football’s Week 1 commences the following Thursday with 16 games on Sept. 2, eight on Sept. 3 and the usual slate of games on Saturday, Sept. 4.
The bottom line is football is here and is here to stay. We don’t blame McCarthy for being giddy about it.
