NFL Free Agent in “Terrific Shape” – Could Sign Soon After Latest Visit

August 13, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After spending the entire 2024 campaign with the Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers, NFL free agent running back Boston Scott is looking to make a comeback to the starting squad at least this season. According to Jordan Schultz, the running back was with the Baltimore Ravens, working out for them, but reportedly, he’s in the best shape of his life. If this is true, he could garner interest from teams even beyond the Baltimore visit, as he might wait to decide on where he wants to play in 2025, so he has options. Originally selected in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the former Louisiana Tech product is no starter by any means, but he has a chance to be a backup at best if he continues to work his way up.

He won’t be the backup depending on where he lands, but Scott could be an RB3 at minimum. Scott spent the first few months with the New Orleans Saints before joining the Philadelphia Eagles, where he’s been somewhat of a reliable backfield piece. The running back isn’t the type of athlete to break out, but he could be someone who can be used in short dump pass plays. Scott has a lot of work to do to probably land himself on a 53-man roster, but being that he’s in good shape, it puts him at an advantage.

Possible Next Teams

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers have two heavyweight running backs in Najee Harris and Omarion Hampton. They represent what head coach Jim Harbaugh was truly looking for in a physical run game, but someone like Boston Scott could be a part of the mix for short pass play scenarios. Quarterback Justin Herbert thrives in screen plays and short yardages, so Scott could be the perfect match to pull off some plays to move the chains.

New Orleans Saints

Meanwhile, behind Alvin Kamara, the New Orleans Saints have one of the worst running back units. Cam Akers and Clyde Edwards-Helaire won’t single-handedly carry the weight if Kamara needs some breathing room on the sidelines. Since Kendre Miller is already fading out of the Saints’ roster, they should sign Scott to give Tyler Shough or Spencer Rattler a chance to throw it to him in screen-play situations.

Dallas Cowboys

Just like the Saints, the Dallas Cowboys still need a major upgrade in the running back unit. Between Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, no one should expect these two to last more than two seasons in Dallas. 2025 draft pick Jaydon Blue will likely be the starter if he can stay healthy. Despite that, they should roll the dice again and get Scott under a cheap contract to bolster the backfield room.

Washington Commanders

Quarterback Jayden Daniels is turning into one of the more promising signal-callers in the league. However, he didn’t get much help from the run last year, as it was nothing but average between Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler. Perhaps, they could give Scott a chance in the backfield since they’re already building an old-school roster either way to maximize Daniels’ contract.
