The Dallas Cowboys got a crushing blow to their pass rush in practice today. Star linebacker DeMarcus Lawrence broke his foot today and is out indefinitely.
The two-time Pro Bowler had gone four straight years without missing a game after missing 16 games in his first three seasons. Now we can only guess how long it will be until he returns – if he returns at all this season.
Lawrence had five tackles and a forced fumble in the Cowboys’ season-opening loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had been battling a back injury heading into this week’s practice, but wasn’t limited prior to today’s injury.
Over the last four years, Lawrence has 36.5 sacks, 50 tackles for loss and 75 QB hits. He made back-to-back Pro Bowls in 2017 and 2018.
Needless to say, Cowboys fans are not happy right now:
Oof. That is a significant loss https://t.co/ArigV6bwsM

Defense was already the Achilles’ heel of the Dallas Cowboys heading into this season. Losing their top pass rusher after just one week is going to be difficult to handle – no matter how long he’s out.
Finding a replacement isn’t going to be easy either. The trade market for pass rushers is thin at the moment. Anyone the Cowboys plug in will have to be someone they brought to training camp.
Murphy’s Law with this team I swear. McCarthy regime feels cursed. Hate it for them but let’s see it with this next group can pull off. Sky was falling with Martin out against TB and held their own. Dak and offense gonna need to score early and often https://t.co/nVjFXJLvT0

The Cowboys won’t have much time to get DeMarcus Lawrence’s replacement up to speed. They play the Los Angeles Chargers on the road this Sunday.
How will losing DeMarcus Lawrence affect the Cowboys’ season?
