Report: Bears Urged to Cut Former Fourth-Round Pick – 4 Possible Fits

August 17, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After only spending two seasons with the Chicago Bears, the team could cut former fourth-round pick wide receiver Tyler Scott before the 2025 campaign. According to Bleacher Report, they think the Bears should move on from Scott since the team is one of the several rosters that have one of the deepest receiving groups in the league. Originally selected in the 2023 NFL Draft, the former Cincinnati product was hoping to carve out a name for himself on this team, but after drafting quarterback Caleb Williams a year later, it became more difficult for that to happen. When there’s a new quarterback in town, the team typically pushes forward to find new talent either through the draft or free agency to build around the signal-caller.

Scott doesn’t have a realistic path to win the starting job when you have guys like DJ Moore, Rome Odunze and rookie Luther Burden that will eat up most of the snaps. It got worse for Scott as Olamide Zaccheaus and Devin Duvernay are the new weapons that are in the background as depth. Scott is a third-stringer, and since he never got a true chance to prove himself on the field, it’s only right for the Bears to release him. He isn’t going to get the best contract with whatever team wants him if he becomes available, but these four rosters should snag him.

Best Possible Next Teams

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys don’t need another wide receiver, but it’d be nice to have some extra depth behind two high-level wideouts in CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. Scott isn’t taking away playing time from Jalen Tolbert or Jonathan Mingo, but when you want to appear in the Super Bowl for the first time in more than a decade, it’s better to get all the weapons you can get. If Dallas loves dishing out one-year deals, this is their opportunity to do that with Scott.

New Orleans Saints

Meanwhile, the New Orleans Saints have one of the worst signal-callers in the league. No one should expect Tyler Shough or Spencer Rattler to lead the team to a playoff appearance this season, but if they get more unproven talent, they could slowly develop in the background. General Manager Mickey Loomis refuses to rebuild, which is why he re-signed Brandin Cooks. No one should expect him to be in his prime anymore, as Scott, being the unproven weapon, could possibly shine through as an emerging offensive threat in the background behind Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed.

Los Angeles Chargers

Still, after bringing back Keenan Allen, the Los Angeles Chargers can’t afford to go backwards. However, it’s understandable that Allen is back solely just for the postseason, but it doesn’t mean he won’t be consistent throughout the 2025 campaign. When you have Tre Harris, KeAndre Lambert-Smith and Ladd McConkey, the Chargers should build upon that and get Scott in the mix if they plan on releasing journeyman Jalen Reagor.

Kansas City Chiefs

Despite earlier reports that Rashee Rice might not get a verdict on his suspension until Week 4, it doesn’t mean it won’t come sooner than expected. The Chiefs might sign a new wide receiver before the season, and if Scott becomes available, the team should roll the dice on him to see what he could do. With that, they could still bring JuJu Smith-Schuster up on the depth chart, and if he fails to live up to the moment, they could get an unproven Scott to see what type of noise he can make.
