The Cleveland Browns’ long-time tight end, David Njoku, could be a potential cut candidate before the 2025 regular season. The Browns are rebuilding their roster, and they’re expecting to have some quarterback competition this year after drafting Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. Veteran Deshaun Watson might not have a chance to start, and that spells bad news for his pass catcher, Njoku, who was one of his primary targets that built the chemistry together on this offense. According to a report, one source believes the Browns will either trade or release Njoku since he’s nearing the end of his second deal with them.
Originally selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the former Miami product became a powerful fixture on this offense, helping multiple Brown quarterbacks try to succeed in this organization. However, it might be time for the team to part ways with the tight end after drafting Harold Fannin Jr. with the third-round pick this year. Njoku isn’t getting any younger at age 28, and he may be a dependable target in a team that needs a pass catcher. The tight end had one of his best seasons during the 2021 and 2022 campaign, so there’s some upside there.
Njoku won’t fetch the best trade capital, but with a rebuilding Browns roster, they should consider making him available. The tight end is still in his prime, and he won’t let it go to waste, so here are three teams that may save his NFL career.

REPORT: Browns Pro Bowler David Njoku Could Be Possible Cut Candidate – 3 Potential Fits
Possible Destinations
Kansas City Chiefs
This might be the last season for veteran superstar tight end Travis Kelce. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Kelce couldn’t figure things out at the beginning of the 2024 campaign, as the chemistry was off. However, they finally found some life, but it wasn’t enough to bring in a Super Bowl after losing embarrassingly. The Chiefs have one of the most questionable pass catchers in the league. Marquise Brown is returning, but he’s only in it to win a ring and may want a high-paid contract elsewhere if he impresses this upcoming season.
There are positive signs for Xavier Worthy despite his offseason troubles. Meanwhile, wide receiver Rashee Rice may miss time due to a possible suspension. Whatever happens, they need a long-term tight end to replace Kelce, and Njoku could fit the bill.
Dallas Cowboys
Last season, tight end Jake Ferguson missed some games with an injury, and since he’s entering the final season of his contract, it’s time for him to step up. Luke Schoonmaker hasn’t been special in the past seasons since entering the league. Njoku could salvage this unit and provide some relief as another capable pass catcher for quarterback Dak Prescott. He won’t be Jason Witten 2.0, but he has strong upside to be an emergency receiver if the Cowboys can’t figure out how to get another weapon to save CeeDee Lamb in the aerial attack.
Los Angeles Chargers
Meanwhile, the Chargers got another tight end in Tyler Conklin, so it seems they might move on from Will Dissly sooner rather than later. However, they need more pass catchers for Justin Herbert to succeed in the postseason. Njoku is the perfect athlete to pair with Conklin as emergency depth, since guys like Mike Williams are past their prime.
