Report: Cowboys Could Target Former Super Bowl Champion – Ravens, Chargers Could Intervene

May 27, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After repairing the team’s offensive passing unit, the Dallas Cowboys could target former Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl winner Kendall Fuller. According to a report, one source believes the Cowboys should sign Fuller to shore up the secondary unit, as Stephen Jones confirms that Trevon Diggs might not be ready in time for the regular season. Despite drafting Shavon Revel Jr. this year, he isn’t ready for full-time duties as well since he’s recovering from a torn ACL. DaRon Bland is returning, but it will be interesting to see what will happen with him since he’s entering his contract, so this depleted secondary department will be one to watch this upcoming season.

The good news is that they could get Fuller for temporary relief. Originally selected in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft, the former Virginia Tech product spent the first two seasons with the Washington Commanders after being on the injured reserve for the first few games in his rookie year. However, the team sent him to the Chiefs, where he won a Super Bowl, recording a career-high of 82 combined tackles, 12 pass deflections and two interceptions in 15 starts. It was two years later that the Commanders brought him back on a four-year deal that includes $40 million, but he couldn’t live up to expectations since the team was not in the right position to win ball games.

With that, Fuller left probably at the wrong time since the Commanders have a new culture and went to a depleted Dolphins roster. The cornerback in the right position could excel, and if the Cowboys don’t get him, these two teams could intervene to sign him.

Bolstering Ravens’ Secondary

Last season, the Baltimore Ravens had one of the worst secondaries in the league. Brandon Stephens and Marcus Williams were the biggest weak links in this unit, and that’s why they’re no longer a part of this roster. Even though they signed Chidobe Awuzie this free agency, it’s probably one of the most disappointing signings for the Ravens, who need a change in their secondary. Veteran Marlon Humphrey and 2024 draft pick Nate Wiggins are the two lockdown starters for the pass defense, but the Ravens need some reliable depth to help keep this department alive for the postseason.

Humphrey is in his prime and Wiggins is getting started, so they can’t afford to lose any of them, and being that Awuzie is the next man up, it doesn’t look promising. Fuller might not save the Ravens in every single play, but he’s a better cornerback than Awuzie when he gets put in the best position wth a championship roster that’s close to winning a Super Bowl.

Help for Cam Hart

Meanwhile, the secondary will look dramatically different for the Los Angeles Chargers. Despite losing Kristian Fulton to the Kansas City Chiefs, the team made up for it, signing both Donte Jackson and Benjamin St-Juste. The Chargers need another wide receiver on offense, but they can’t ignore addressing the cornerback unit. 2024 draft pick Cam Hart isn’t ready to take on full-time duties, so he could pair with Fuller to help him in the slot as a boundary guy.
