With a current running back room of Royce Freeman, Deuce Vaughn and Rico Dowdle, the Dallas Cowboys could reportedly be eyeing a reunion with Ezekiel Elliott.
Per Josina Anderson of CBS Sports, “I’m told the #Cowboys are currently meeting with RB Ezekiel Elliott’s representative around the facility a day before the NFL Draft.”
Elliott spent seven seasons in Dallas where he made an immediate impact as the team’s bell cow back.
For the first four years of his career he was clearly one of the best RBs in the NFL, but as the hits piled up his production as an every down runner steadily decreased.
The Cowboys released Elliott last March in an effort to save some money and get younger at the position. However with Tony Pollard now in Tennessee, Dallas may be looking back and remembering the good times it had with Zeke in the past.
Head coach Mike McCarthy has gone on-record that he really hopes the team takes a running back in this year’s draft but he probably wouldn’t be too sad to see Zeke walk back through those AT&T Stadium doors.
“My God, I hope we can get one of these running backs,” McCarthy told the team’s website. “It would be great to add it to the room.”
We’ll see what happens with the draft just 24 hours away.
