After interesting speculation and rumors, the Philadelphia Eagles’ tight end, Dallas Goedert, will take a pay cut to stay with the team. According to a report, the veteran will be staying with the Super Bowl champions for at least a year to make his case for a third contract. Originally selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the former South Dakota State product was one of the men responsible for quarterback Jalen Hurts‘ success, throwing it in the aerial attack. However, it wasn’t enough for the Eagles to consider keeping him around as he was entering the final year of his deal, but Goedert found a resolution to stay in Philadelphia.
The veteran was the subject of trade talks during the offseason, and it looked like the Eagles were looking for ways to trade him sooner rather than later. Hurts hasn’t been reliant on the pass offense this past year, which is why Goedert was only able to record 42 catches for 496 yards and two scores in 10 games during the regular season. The tight end got better in the postseason, but he knew the Eagles had budget concerns, especially after giving star running back Saquon Barkley a new contract.
However, injuries were another concern in reaching his full potential. If he can’t be consistent this upcoming season, there’s still a possibility the Eagles could trade him to these five teams before the trade deadline.

5 Possible Destinations
Los Angeles Chargers
This would be the most logical fit for Dallas Goedert. The Los Angeles Chargers are still rebuilding their pass-catching unit after signing Tyler Conklin, who they’re hoping can help quarterback Justin Herbert. This could be Will Dissly’s last season before they consider trading him, so Goedert could fill the hole as a dynamic No. 1 tight end while Conklin could take care of backup duties. Meanwhile, Mike Williams is way past his prime, and Quentin Johnston will likely get cut after this season, so the Chargers getting Goedert strengthens their playoff roster.
Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys finally found some life in their pass offense after trading for wide receiver George Pickens. Now, they have two capable wideouts in the aerial attack, with CeeDee Lamb being one of them. However, Jake Ferguson is entering the final season of his current contract, so they could sign Goedert if he becomes a free agent. The Cowboys can’t keep adding young stars and need to mix in a few veterans if they have Super Bowl aspirations.
Pittsburgh Steelers
After losing Pickens, the Steelers could use any pass catcher, despite trading for DK Metcalf this offseason. Pat Freiermuth has a bright future to be a standout tight end for a long time, but adding Goedert to the conversation could increase the odds of a Super Bowl. After all, they may finally sign Aaron Rodgers since rumor has it that they’re looking to trade for Allen Lazard.
Chicago Bears
Speaking of tight ends, there’s a possibility that the Bears move on from Cole Kmet. After drafting Colston Loveland, they finally have a long-term tight end for Caleb Williams’ offense. However, this young team needs a capable veteran to shore up this passing game, and Goedert could be a temporary fill to help the Bears make it to the NFC Championship Game.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Eagles would never facilitate a trade involving their best player to the Chiefs, but they could sign him if Goedert becomes a free agent. Veteran Travis Kelce isn’t guaranteed to be coming back next year, and Goedert could be a temporary replacement. This would keep quarterback Patrick Mahomes intact to continue their Super Bowl reign.
