REPORT: Giants Named Fit For Journeyman – Other 5 Possible Fits?

May 15, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Before the 2025 regular season, the New York Giants could target free agent Gerald Everett to bolster the tight end unit. According to Pro Football Focus, they believe that the Giants are a fit for Everett even though they have two in-house tight ends like Daniel Bellinger and Theo Johnson. However, they haven’t put up convincing numbers that intrigue the organization, that’ll be a long-term pass-catching option for the Giants. Despite that, they could fill the hole by signing Everett at least on a one-year deal to salvage the department.

Originally selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the former South Alabama product has some familiarity with new Giants quarterback Russell Wilson. The two in Seattle during the 2021 campaign put up promising numbers, even though it was just one season, but it was enough to be recognizable that these two may excel together, no matter the team. Perhaps, the Giants could sign Everett even though it’s been an interesting offseason after signing Jameis Winston and drafting Jaxson Dart. Many should anticipate the Giants to alter the starting duties depending on the outcome of the NFL Training Camp.

With that, Everett might not sign with the Giants just yet, but these five teams could intervene and snatch them for their offensive unit.

Potential Destinations

Los Angeles Chargers

Last season, the Los Angeles Chargers had one of the worst wide receiver groups in the league. There has been some improvement with the presence of 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey. This is just one player, so that’s why the Chargers signed Tyler Conklin to give more depth behind Will Dissly. It looks like Dissly won’t last on this roster, and the Chargers need another dynamic pass-catcher. Everett isn’t a superstar, but he could provide some relief for quarterback Justin Herbert.

Dallas Cowboys

Meanwhile, the biggest weakness of this offense could be the tight end unit if Jake Ferguson doesn’t perform better than he did last year. He’s entering the final year of his contract, and Luke Schoonmaker hasn’t made much of a difference. Perhaps, they add one more pass-catcher after they traded for wide receiver George Pickens.

Washington Commanders

Zach Ertz is returning on a new one-year deal, but he’s nearing retirement. The Commanders will likely draft a tight end next year, but they could take a chance on a veteran option like Everett. John Bates is nothing more than a pass-blocker, so Everett could fit the offensive scheme on a cheap contract.

Kansas City Chiefs

The biggest need for the Kansas City Chiefs will be a tight end when Travis Kelce retires. The veteran is possibly playing his last year, but Noah Gray and Robert Tonyan can’t save this passing unit single-handedly for the longevity. Everett could provide some relief on a rotational basis before a new emerging starter comes in to help Patrick Mahomes.

Baltimore Ravens

However, veteran Mark Andrews could still be on the trade block this offseason. General Manager Eric DeCosta does not provide a hopeful message that Andrews is a part of the Ravens’ long-term plans. No one is taking Isaiah Likely’s job, but they still need a reliable backup, and Everett could fit well.
