Report: Jets Could Cut 2024 Draft Pick – 4 Possible Next Teams

June 23, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After a rough 2024 rookie campaign with the New York Jets, the team will likely cut wide receiver Malachi Corley before the 2025 regular season. According to ESPN, the wideout will have a lot to prove, but the source says there’s a chance the Jets could release Corley as he hasn’t been able to live up to expectations. Originally selected in the third round of last year’s draft, the former Western Kentucky product was hoping to carve out a starting role in this offense, but things haven’t been going his way after just recording 3 receptions for 16 games. He hasn’t even seen much of the field, and that could be due to the fact that former quarterback Aaron Rodgers was a part of this unit that was much reliant on established receivers like Davante Adams to eat up most of the snaps, along with wide receiver Garrett Wilson.

Since Rodgers isn’t a part of this roster anymore, and it’s Justin Fields that will take over, it hasn’t been working in Corley’s favor to get any attention in the team’s depth chart. Between Wilson, Josh Reynolds and Allen Lazard, it looks like Corley could be the odd man out of this situation as they’re still in the market for a weapon. As much as there was a lot of hype in this draft selection from former head coach Robert Saleh, there has been a lot that has changed in New York. The Jets are building a new regime, and since Corley has been sitting out with an undisclosed injury, it might be time to part ways, but these five teams could take a chance on him.

Potential Destinations

Los Angeles Chargers

Despite signing Mike Williams and drafting Tre Harris, the Los Angeles Chargers still have a lot of unproven playmakers for quarterback Justin Herbert. 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey appears to be the only promising wide receiver on this roster. Even though Quentin Johnston still has two years left on his rookie contract to prove himself, he hasn’t been living up to expectations. Corley might not start, but could pair with Harris to continue to develop in the background.

New Orleans Saints

Meanwhile, the New Orleans Saints need all of the talent on their roster since they’re without an adequate starting quarterback between Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler. The team has Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed and veteran Brandin Cooks on lock to start. It wouldn’t hurt to bring in a potential homegrown weapon to develop for either Shough or Rattler.

Baltimore Ravens

However, the Ravens aren’t in the market for a wide receiver, but if DeAndre Hopkins is only there for a year, they must figure out who will be the WR3 for the long term. No one should worry about the future of Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman; they’re here to stay as long as the production remains. Since DeVontez Walker has yet to receive any large chunk of snaps, he could get some playing time alongside Corley and probably battle it out for a spot in the starting roster.

Dallas Cowboys

After trading George Pickens this offseason, the Dallas Cowboys are in the best position to put the ball anywhere between him, CeeDee Lamb or Jalen Tolbert in the wide receiver department. However, Tolbert is entering a contract year, and even if he does impress, it does not guarantee him another deal since the Cowboys have a lot of other contracts, like Micah Parsons, to worry about. Jonathan Mingo and Kavontae Turpin aren’t earning much in the snap count, and they could add Corley in that unit to bolster that team to continue to test the waters.
