Despite suffering injuries on both sides of the ball this 2025 season, many believe that the Green Bay Packers won’t be able to retain wide receiver Romeo Doubs. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, he thinks that Doubs will become a free agent with no hesitation from the Packers, as the team has several offensive weapons for quarterback Jordan Love. However, it’s a bit of a head scratcher that they gave Christian Watson a contract extension over Doubs earlier this year, despite Doubs managing most of the snaps for the majority of the 2025 campaign. Watson is dealing with another injury once again, which he avoided a major setback, but it’s hard to think that the Packers prioritized him over Doubs.

Report: Packers “Unlikely” to Retain Former Fourth-Round Pick Romeo Doubs – 3 Next Teams
The Packers feel comfortable with Watson and Jayden Reed as their main starters for their offense. After drafting Savion Williams and Matthew Golden this past NFL Draft, the offense is in good shape to be powerful in the air for several seasons moving forward. This doesn’t give Doubs a chance to make an impact anymore, and since the receiver unit is too overloaded, he should move on either way.
Originally selected as a 2022 NFL Draft pick, the former Nevada product will have one of the best markets this upcoming free agency. It makes sense why the Packers won’t bring him back, as he might be too expensive. The good news for the Packers is that they also have Dontayvion Wicks, who won’t become a free agent until 2027, which buys Green Bay plenty of time. However, these three teams could emerge as the best suitors for Doubs in March.
Potential Fits
Dallas Cowboys
With the 2025 season pretty much done for Dallas, the Cowboys will need to turn the page and see what the receiver unit will look like next season. Depending on whether the team extends George Pickens, the Cowboys should look into signing Doubs. Dak Prescott is one of the greatest quarterbacks in the past five years, but the Cowboys need offensive line and defense help. However, Doubs is a perfect match for this offense that thrives off of throwing on out routes, but he’s more of a slant route runner.
The wide receiver could get this offense acclimated in a scenery if Pickens decides to play elsewhere and become the latest receiver to pair with CeeDee Lamb.
Kansas City Chiefs
Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs’ 2025 season is over with no chance of a postseason for the first time in a decade. With Patrick Mahomes out for almost a year, the Chiefs will need to wait patiently on his status. Veteran Marquise Brown is slated to become a free agent in March and could leave Kansas City to join another contender in March. This means the Chiefs’ offense will have a void in their aerial attack, and Mahomes is going to need another fresh set of hands.
Doubs is a solid pair with Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice to receive the ball in deep threat moments, and Mahomes’ magician style of play, when healthy, could continue to see him thrive in Kansas City.
San Francisco 49ers
However, the rebuild will continue for San Francisco. Even though they will appear in the postseason, the receiver unit needs some work. Brandon Aiyuk is the latest 49er that could depart, which means Ricky Pearsall will need some long-term relief in the scheme. Jauan Jennings is eligible for a new deal this upcoming offseason, so if they lose both Jennings and Aiyuk this offseason, the 49ers could target Doubs.
