Report: Saints “Swiss Army Knife” Named Potential Cut Candidate

August 13, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

With no real timeline for when he will return following his gruesome injury last year, the New Orleans Saints could cut tight end Taysom Hill before the 2025 regular season. The Saints are in dire need of cap space, and since Hill is getting older, it might make sense for the Saints to move on. According to Bleacher Report, they believe the team should release him as he counts $10 million against the cap space, and that’s a significant amount of money for a team that doesn’t have much to sign other younger talent. Originally selected as an undrafted rookie in 2017, the former BYU product spent all of his career with the New Orleans Saints while spending some time with the Packers in the practice squad.

Hill had a few moments with the Saints, and for a team that could be rebuilding soon (hopefully) if they don’t receive any setbacks from General Manager Mickey Loomis, it’s easier to do it sooner rather than later. The Saints have two tight ends already on the depth chart that could thrive if they can stay healthy. Foster Moreau is recovering from an injury like Hill, but being that they have Juwan Johnson, it makes sense that the Saints might want to move on from Hill. The utility athlete might not get the best offer once he recovers, but these teams could pursue him.

Best Fits

Baltimore Ravens

If anyone in the league can bring out the best in Taysom Hill, it’s the Baltimore Ravens. They know how to pull off some of the most spectacular trick plays in the past behind Lamar Jackson and Justice Hill, so why not get a tight end that can do the same? Isaiah Likely is nursing an injury, so they’ll likely keep veteran Mark Andrews in the fold, but it doesn’t mean they can’t get Hill in the mix. Baltimore has one of the best offenses in the league, and they’re going to need moments like this, especially in the playoffs, to juice their momentum.

Carolina Panthers

Meanwhile, the Carolina Panthers spent their offseason rebuilding their pass-catching unit after drafting Tetairoa McMillian and signing Hunter Renfrow. However, they could switch things up a bit to give quarterback Bryce Young fetch off the ball quicker in blitz moments. While they could run the football between Chuba Hubbard and Rico Dowdle, they can’t easily depend on that at all times. Despite extending Tommy Tremble, he suffered an injury, and that will likely lead to more snaps for Ja’Tavion Sanders, who has yet to prove his on-field abilities.

Taysom Hill could find his role somewhere in this offense while Tremble is back to full health.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers have one of the best tight end units in the league between Will Dissly and Tyler Conklin. Taysom Hill could add more firepower to what they already have. Quarterback Justin Herbert isn’t targeting Hill consistently, but he could play several positions and give Jim Harbaugh a special playbook to work with.

Dallas Cowboys

After giving Jake Feguson a contract extension this offseason, the depth behind him is nothing promising. Luke Schoonmaker has yet to be consistent, and John Stephens hasn’t gotten a lot of reps. Taysom Hill could fit in Dallas’ budget and be a versatile pass-catching option for Dak Prescott.
