Report: Vikings Named Fit for Top NFL Free Agent – 3 Teams Could Intervene

July 4, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After spending a disastrous campaign with the Atlanta Falcons, the Minnesota Vikings could sign free agent Matthew Judon, as he’s still one of the best available on the market. It’s hard to imagine he is still without a team, but he is coming off a down year after recording just 5.5 sacks this past year. ESPN’s Aaron Schatz made a list of last offseason moves for every team, and they believe the Vikings could benefit from Judon’s presence as a rotational edge rusher. The Vikings already have two solid contributors in Jonathan Greenard and Andrew Van Ginkel, but they’re still waiting on Dallas Turner to exceed expectations, and they don’t really have much depth after that.

If any team in this league can bring out the best in a veteran, it’s the Vikings. They did this last offseason by building a promising secondary room that now contains free agent Stephon Gilmore. Perhaps, they could hope to do the same with Judon, as he could strengthen this defense in the best possible way. Originally selected in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, the former Grand Valley State product did have several productive seasons between the Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots. However, Judon is getting up there in age, so he might have at least three more seasons, and these other teams could probably invest in him to push for a Super Bowl appearance.

Other Potential Next Teams

Baltimore Ravens

Despite having a promising offense led by quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back Derrick Henry, they need some massive upgrades in their pass-rushing unit if they want a final push. After losing Malik Harrison, the Ravens are stuck with barring the depths of David Ojabo and Trenton Simpson, who have been the biggest busts on this defense. It won’t get better for the longevity of this department as Kyle Van Noy and Odafe Oweh are entering into their contract years, so they must act sooner rather than later. If they could find a way to compensate a new contract to bring back Matthew Judon, then they should make the move.

It would be a no-brainer move for the team that finally wants to appear in a Super Bowl in more than a decade. If they won’t bring back Jadeveon Clowney, they should at least test their luck and get Judon at least on a bargain one-year deal.

Washington Commanders

Meanwhile, the Washington Commanders are not looking to add any defensive ends to this roster, but they must continue to mortgage their future to build a strong physical defense that could be the last piece to put the Commanders over the top. Despite signing Deatrich Wise Jr. to potentially be a replacement for Dante Fowler, he isn’t the long-term answer for getting after the quarterback. With Dominique Hampton unproven, and being that Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luvu are explosive linebackers, they could benefit from pairing Judon and Wagner as two exclusive veterans.

Dallas Cowboys

However, it wouldn’t hurt for the Dallas Cowboys to add another pass-rusher. After trading for Kenneth Murray Jr. and signing Jack Sanborn, the defense will look dramatically different under new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus. Judon could be the perfect to Dante Fowler Jr. as a real package deal in Dallas.
