Shocking: Chiefs Could Put Former Rounder On Trade Block

April 22, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

marquise brown trade block

In a shocking world, the Kansas City Chiefs could put veteran wide receiver Marquise Brown on the trade block during the NFL Draft. According to the shocking report, one source believes the Chiefs could trade Brown despite signing him to a new one-year contract this offseason. This comes as a shock in a way since the team just signed him, but being that he’s just in a temporary role, it might be safe for the Chiefs to trade him, where he could thrive. Veteran tight end Travis Kelce, Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice are ahead of him on the depth chart, so it’s not like quarterback Patrick Mahomes would have used him as much as he would like.

Originally selected in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the former Oklahoma product spent the first few seasons with the Baltimore Ravens as one of the primary pass catchers, helping the team to the divisional round of the playoffs. Brown got better, and in his last campaign with the Ravens, he recorded 91 receptions for 1,008 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns. To everyone’s surprise, the team sent Brown to the Arizona Cardinals in a trade during the NFL Draft, so it’s not like it’ll be the first time he’s involved in a trade package.

The wide receiver was the second-leading pass catcher for the Cardinals, but didn’t do much to produce the best numbers. Since Brown is more of a journeyman either way, these three teams could fit his billing and give him a better opportunity.

3 Logical Fits

Carolina Panthers

Last season, the Carolina Panthers had plenty of inadequate, unproven wide receivers despite trading for Diontae Johnson. They were hoping he would be the primary pass catcher for quarterback Bryce Young, but that wasn’t the case. The team sent Johnson to the Ravens since they were out of postseason contention either way. The offense finally found some life again at the end of the campaign, which sets up for what could come this upcoming season.

Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker are the only two capable pass catchers who have a shot at becoming homegrown talent for Young. Even though the Panthers are not contenders, they would be in the best position if they traded for Brown. Veteran Adam Thielen will probably retire after the 2025 campaign, and Brown could be a reliable No. 3 wideout.

New Orleans Saints

Meanwhile, the New Orleans Saints need all of the talent they can get in their offensive aerial attack. They will be without an adequate quarterback for the majority of the 2025 campaign, so it’s better that they get the best of the best to give whoever will take over the best opportunity. Chris Olave is on the brink of requesting a trade, and could do so during the draft. Marquise Brown could fit the category of what Rashid Shaheed and Brandin Cooks have as far as elusiveness to catch footballs in slant routes.

Dallas Cowboys

For the Cowboys, they’re desperate for a wide receiver. CeeDee Lamb can’t do it alone as the primary pass catcher, and since losing Cooks, the team needs something to boost Dak Prescott’s pass game. Marquise Brown is the perfect fit to operate as a slant route guy and to provide some consistency.
