The Cowboys and Chargers are set for a Week 2 battle at basically even odds.

While the rest of the NFL world is just now reacting to their games played on Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys have been readying for Week 2 for almost half a week now. The rest associated with coming off of a Thursday is a nice benefit to the Cowboys this week who will visit the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday afternoon. Those very Chargers are already undefeated in NFC East play as they defeated the Washington Football Team in Week 1.

Ultimately the Chargers not only won, but they covered. Most books had LA as 1.5-point favorites on the road in Washington and considering that they won 20-16 people who believed in them are rather happy.

Our friends at BetOnline have the Chargers as favorites for the second week in a row. The Cowboys opened as 3-point underdogs for their second road trip of the season.

For what it’s worth the Cowboys also covered in Week 1. Most places had them as 7.5- or 8.5-point underdogs against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, some places saw the line climb as high as double-digits on the day of the game at that. That the Cowboys only lost by two is a sign of extreme promise, one we have discussed several times since the loss.

Football fans are having a difficult time fully analyzing the Chargers win on Sunday given that Washington quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick exited the game early with a hip injury (Fitzpatrick was placed on injured reserve on Monday by the way). While it is difficult to call it a high-quality win, securing the bag by way of victory is all that matters.

Ultimately the most impressive aspect of the Chargers win had nothing to do with how they played defensively against whatever quarterback but rather how they handled the Washington defensive unit. The Football Team has one of the more impressive defensive fronts in the league, but the Chargers handled it better than any NFL team handled any defensive front all throughout Week 1 entering Monday night.

No offense allowed a lower pressure rate (12%) than the Chargers in Week 1.

And they did it against arguably the best defensive line in the NFL.

The Cowboys need to get a win in the books badly and thankfully have some lower-quality opponents on the way that should help with that. However, they also need to find a way to beat the top teams if they want to accomplish anything significant.
