The Dallas Cowboys have addressed some key areas of need this offseason, but they’ve yet to act on the kicker front.
Following the best regular season of his career, Brett Maher unraveled to miss five extra points in the playoffs. The Cowboys have yet to re-sign him, nor have they attained a replacement.
Tristan Vizcaino, who missed five of 15 point-after tries in 2021, is the only kicker on the roster. While the Cowboys don’t appear to be in a hurry to resolve the issue, they haven’t forgotten about the position.
Per ESPN’s Todd Archer, executive vice president Stephen Jones said the team will “continue to look at options.” Head coach Mike McCarthy said they’ll consider XFL and USFL kickers, but special teams coordinator John Fassel widened the search pool.
“Anybody else on earth who is not on the team right now is under consideration,” Fassel said. “That’s everybody really.”

Among the “everybody,” Fassel mentioned free agents Robbie Gould, Ryan Succop, and Mason Crosby, who spent 12 seasons with McCarthy on the Green Bay Packers.
Per Archer, Dallas “never really got into the discussion” with Brandon McManus, who joined the Jacksonville Jaguars after getting cut by the Denver Broncos. Jacksonville contacted Dallas about Riley Patterson before trading him to the Detroit Lions
The Cowboys also waited to land a kicker last offseason, entering spring OTAs only with undrafted rookie Jonathan Garibay. Maher signed in early August.
Vizcaino probably won’t remain unopposed for the job all offseason, but the Cowboys appear poised to stay patient before acquiring another kicker.
