The race to the top of the NFC East

February 27, 2024 by Our Turf Football

Dayna O’Gorman covers the NFC West. And she has long contended that because of the talent in the division, it always comes down to the last few weeks of the season to determine the division winner. That always makes for an exciting finish and the division games that much more interesting.  And when you could get 3 of the 4 in the playoffs, you know things are coming up roses.

Because of the season that the teams in the NFC East are having, I’ve got the opposite going on!

The NFC East race is coming down to the wire, not because they’re doing great, but because this division is collectively having a not great season.  But as I’ve said in the past, I’m giving them a mulligan for the season. They are starting to show some signs of life, of course too little too late, perhaps.

But still, the Washington Football Team had won 4 in a row, including handing the Pittsburgh Steelers their first loss. Even though Washington lost to the Seattle Seahawks, they did hang around. The Dallas Cowboys have also won two in a row.  Both teams have some rookies that are having some good seasons as well.

Washington has defensive end Chase Young who has been a great addition to the Washington defense and was named to the Pro Bowl. The Cowboys rookie wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is close to breaking the franchise record for most receiving yards by a rookie. Defensive lineman Neville Gallimore is also putting in work on the Cowboy’s defensive line.

The New York Giants potentially had some good going, by beating the Seahawks. Unfortunately, they couldn’t keep the momentum as they’ve lost their last two games and looking to face the Baltimore Ravens and the Cowboys in the last two games of the season.

The Philadelphia Eagles have temporarily solved their quarterback problems by starting rookie Jalen Hurts, but the switch may have come too late. But because the division is the way it is, they still could come out on top.  The Eagles will face the Cowboys and Washington in their last two games.

While the division may not be having its best season, it’s still going to come down to the wire. And after the 2020 we’ve had, it’ll be fun watching these last two weeks unfold!
