Troy Aikman was impressed by what he saw from the Cowboys in Week 1.
Despite the season opening loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the legendary NFL quarterback is high on his team’s chances moving forward.
Aikman, speaking on The Musers on 96.7 FM/1310 AM The Ticket [KTCK-AM], had high praise for Mike McCarthy’s team.
“I feel that they’re going to have a really good year. I think they’ve got some good things within the team and that was only elevated after watching that game and that environment, the defending champs. The defending Super Bowl champs — from my experience — always come into the year probably feeling a little better than everybody else because of the year that they had the season before the offseason. Usually, you come into the year playing really well and feel good about your team and then the way the league has done it over the years, hosting the first game of the season. No fans having been there last year, I just thought it was a great environment for Dallas to figure out where they were this early in the season and I thought there was a lot of positives,” Aikman said.
“Dak got a lot of the headlines and rightfully so, but I was really impressed by — and I guess encouraged is a better way of saying it — the defense and some of the takeaways that they were able to get. Unfortunately, these games, they come down to the last couple of minutes and that’s ultimately what you’re measured on is whether or not you’re able to make those stops. I know as coaches and as players on that side of the ball, they’re highly disappointed, but overall I felt pretty good about it.”
Unfortunately, the Cowboys have since received some tough injury news.
#Cowboys pass-rusher DeMarcus Lawrence suffered a foot injury in practice today, which is why he’s listed as limited. It’s currently being evaluated, and the severity is not yet clear.

There’s still a long way to go this season, though.
The Cowboys will look to get their first win of the season on Sunday against the Chargers.
